Windows 10

Is there a way for me to make the normal Windows Explorer theme darker, just along the top, the White gets lost on me with a few windows opening, changing my theme doesn't seem to make any real difference.

Just Google "Windows 10 title bar". Theres a couple of ways you can restore the theme colours to the title bar instead of the default white.

Managed to change that horrible lockscreen background. :D

I used the Windows 10 lockscreen background changer application. I could have done it through registry tweaks, but was trying to fix my android application at the time!

Also, gaming performance. When I had my AMD card, Windows 10 performance was quite a bit smoother on Titanfall for example. However, I am now running a 980 @1400p and feel that the performance is not much better (perhaps worse?) Than it was on Windows 8.1, anyone else noticed? Perhaps the Nvidia drivers are pants?

I got a free upgrade to 10 but a day after I had a new mobo I didn't know activation was tied to my motherboard

I really don't want to pay £100 to activate windows again but I can see cheap 8.1 OEM keys online I'm wondering if I buy one and use it on an 8.1 windows would I get a free upgrade to OEM 10

Try phone activation before looking at re-buying any licenses.

Literally just posted a link to a how to guide in the other thread:

Screenshots are from my computer. :) Matches the accent colour now.

I would be more interested in how you planned on doing it with reg tweaks? I edited my registry file for this background(I assume you meant login screen as that is the only one you cant change via personalisation) but I edited mine to match the accent colour completely instead of having an image background.

Do you know how to edit the reg to alter the background of the login screen?

For your second point about the gaming performance - my experience has been better than on 8.1. GTA is running so much better that I have upped the settings with no performance hit, and I did a firestrike run this evening with a higher score than I ever got. :S weird!

If you install Windows 10 without a CD key how long does it last before you have to activate it? What happens with an unactivated edition does it mean you won't get windows updates

You dont use a 'key' to install Win 10. You do an Upgrade using your Legitimate OS and Win 10 gets 'activated' automatically. No Product key needs to be typed in. Read the FAQ here as it has some useful info.

Yet all over MS site it talks about buying a Windows 10 license, although they probably mean eventually.

Apologies, I meant the accent colour mate. Damn, drunken explaining I tell you!

Hmm, must be me then. When I was on AMD, the boost was really, really good, but I am just not feeling it with my 980. Strange.

Are you on the latest Nvidia drivers also?

it's simple.

you upgrade from win7/8.1 then if you want to reinstall or clean install you just boot from the win10 dvd or usb you've made then when it asks for a key, you click skip this then after it's installed it automatically activates.

Can I reinstall Windows 10 on my computer after upgrading?

Yes. Once you’ve upgraded to Windows 10 using the free upgrade offer, you will be able to reinstall, including a clean install, on the same device. You won’t need a product key for re-activations on the same hardware. If you make a meaningful change to your hardware, you may need to contact customer support to help with activation. You’ll also be able to create your own installation media like a USB drive or DVD, and use that to upgrade your device or reinstall after you’ve upgraded.

In Edge just go to favourites and there is an "import favourites" link at the top. From there you can just pull in all your Internet Explorer favourites.

Where is the favourites folder for Edge? I like to change the location of this to my external drive, as I can use it with both my desktop and my laptop. But I can only see the favourites for Internet Explorer, not Edge.

I know that....however you can't honestly think they're not going to ship new PCs without Windows 10 do you? Eventually it will be like Windows 8, but I assume you'll be able to purchase a single user license, otherwise enthusiasts have to constant tly 'uograde', which would be silly.

new PCs/laptop's will ship with Windows 10 and they will have a windows 10 key embedded in the bios

Had a forced Windows 7 update go bad on me last night...

It failed after a reboot and threw up a _BOOT (purple screen) message - can't remember the exact specifics. Any ideas :( The C: drive I'm using is only 100GB, could that be an issue?

Hi all,

Well like the rest of us upgraded to Win 10 this morning but before hand had a fresh win7 install and activated.

Upgraded less than an hour ago and win 10 is saying that the product key didn't work.

And won't activate?

Any ideas?
