Windows 10

Have they gone back on forced updates yet?

updates can be deferred I think so yea? Theres no great reason not to upgrade except if you really have no time but I also said this about win8 and all that fuss, it was pretty similar once you put start menu back

having two separate issues with 10 on two different PCs. On one of them the start menu and search will just stop working after a few minutes, no amount of clicking or hitting the windows key will launch it and when it goes i cant right click on the task bar either, the other locks up when you launch file explorer, similar to an issue one of the early betas had. Both are on the latest insider build, both will probably require a reinstall.

sigh.

Just had a almost a month of Windows 10 Pro and so far all good, several series of updates have gone to plan.

One thing i have noticed is the OS is using generally four cores with load fairly evenly spread. This is on an eight core AMD processor. I have not fully explored this yet and what happens when running multiple programs, I am sure that this is better than Windows 7 scheduling.

I've upgraded and managed to find the Windows 10 key on my system, downloaded the iso can I just format and use that key for a fresh W10 install now guys?

You don't need to find the Windows key once you've upgraded. So long as your PC shows Win10 as Activated, you can simply use the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool to download an ISO (or a bootable USB stick, much faster install in my experience). Use that to make a fresh install and simply skip all the bits asking for a key. Once Windows is installed and connected to the internet, MS's servers will pick up that your hardware was previously activated and your fresh install will show as Activated.

I've done this on 2 PCs and 3 laptops and it's worked as advertised each time so far for me. :)

Just about to do fresh install and new motherboard apparently with a new motherboard it just ask you to re activate online will let you know how it goes

Can't seem to play any video's on my system!

I'm running 10532 (but the latest is currently downloading)

If I try to watch a video in either Kodi, MPC-BE or even the TV & Film app, all I get is a black screen with the sound playing!!

However if I playback in VLC there's no problems!!

I'm running the latest (non-beta) AMD Catalyst drivers for my APU (I've tried to install the Beta version but it doesn't seem to want to install!)

I don't realy want to have to resort to installing a CODEC package as everything worked fine last weekend!! :(

Thanks for the explanation ;)

Am I missing something? Bleeding windows 10?
Upgraded from 8.1pro on the 31st July no issues all activated etc, so today I installed a new sm951 ssd and did a fresh install of Windows 10 but I won't activate so called ms and they said you have to reinstall win 8.1 first then upgrade again ANY IDEAS

Or am I better buying a win 10 home retail key then I can install everytime I add new hardware

This sort of fannying around is exactly why I bit the bullet and bought a retail version of Windows 10 (only £86 on USB3 ... not like it's going to break the bank). Guaranteed no problems then and a nice little plastic credit card with a retail key on it. Job done and Microsoft can stick their so called "free" upgade to Windows 10 as far as I'm concerned :D:D:D

Only my personal opinion folks.
