I can get it for free I think. Any reason not to upgrade at this point?

Getting tired of all the background updates and app updates on Windows 10.

What's to like about Windows 11?

Will I lose anything (files or installed programs) if I upgrade from 10 to 11?

What programs / drivers don't work on Win 11?

I'll do a system image backup of my Windows 10 installation drive. I don't have the time /willingness to reinstall all of my software...

I bet loads of people will be upgrading without issue. I can always do a fresh install later, but doubt it's needed.
It will be absolutely fine.

W11 will never run as fast as it could then, if you don't do a fresh install. https://ninite.com/ makes things easier to install common freeware apps.
Hasn't really been true since Windows 10 due to the way it installs as an image file rather than copying all the individual files to their associated locations.
Installers for programs are also considerably better these days at removing registry entries and files, and most do not leave random files in what should be "protected" locations such as the Windows folder.

Any "speedup" from a fresh install is negligible compared to the "old days" of having to reinstall Windows XP regularly to remove leftover rubbish from old programs etc.

Everything seems fine as far as I can tell. Only thing that surprised me a bit was the location of the start menu (now in the centre of the taskbar). The OS appears to be very similar to Windows 10 in most ways. It's not obvious that any of the drivers used are even different to Windows 10.

The shortcut for the task manager is now control+shift and escape...

I quite like it actually. The only thing I didn't like was that there is no option to disable combining taskbar icons, but I found a program called 'Explorer Patcher' that allows this to be changed.

You can move the icons to the left if you prefer to keep the 'old' look.
I'm in the same boat as the OP. I have 11 running fine on my 'Lockdown' rig, but I really only use that for testing etc. My daily user, spec in sig, is still on 10.

Is the movement of the taskbar icons an official MS thing yet, I seem to recall it was an unofficial mod/hack upon launch... - I stand to be corrected obviously :D

Says who? There is no evidence of this when all factors are considered (on top of maintenance and not filling the OS up with crap etc).

I have not done a fresh install since Vista and my current install runs just as fast and is 100% crash-free at all time unless I have been playing with RAM overclocking after an upgrade etc which is to be expected. How do I know it runs as good as a fresh install still? Because I've been building machines and doing new installs for years in both work and for people.

I did a inplace upgrade and kept all files and it's running fine.

Admittedly the first time i had a couple of random screen glitches but tried again and all is ok now.

Not got 22H2 update offerd yet.

A Windows 11 update scrambled my Windows 11 install ('scan /sfcnow' detected corrupt files). I restarted and was getting BSODs on boot, at this point I had to rollback to Windows 10 (using the rollback to a previous version of Windows option in the recovery environment).

Then I tried again, and this time I was able to get all the updates installed this time, but the cumulative update for 22H2 had to be installed manually. Maybe better for most to wait until Windows 11 22H2 is offered though Windows update (I forced an update to Windows 11 22H2). All seems fine now though.

Did anyone find that minimum framerates were lower in some games on Windows 11?

The toughest game to run I have is Assassin's Creed Odyssey, was getting ~50 minimum FPS in Windows 10.

Now, I'm getting 40 or less minimum FPS running the same in game benchmark, on Windows 11 (Nvidia graphics drivers were updated). VBS already seems to be off on my PC.

Maybe the graphics drivers aren't as mature on Windows 11?

The issue could be a fluke with that one game and your specific configuration. On the large there is next to zero difference in gaming between 10 and 11. The GFX drivers for 10 and 11 are the exact same driver.

If it's the minimum fps then it could be related to your CPU setting, are the Intel drivers etc all up to scratch such as chipset/mobo and everything?
