Windows 11 release v22H2 available now. Time to upgrade yet?

Jumped onto 22h2 update as I’ve been waiting on the alt-tab visibility fix. Well sadly, it’s completely broken gaming. Stuttering all over the place despite high fps. I’m rolling it back now.

Are people already on Windows 11 being offered the upgrade via Windows Update yet?

I was of the impression you should get it now if you manually check for updates but nothing being offered yet.

Have people who upgraded and had issues also remembered to upgrade their hardware drivers for motherboard / gpu / etc? I think for example, the latest AMD chipset drivers added 22H2 support. Are people just upgrading the OS and leaving old drivers on. Makes you wonder.

I would advise waiting until Windows update says Windows 11 22H2 is available.

Some PCs are still only being offered Windows 11 via win update (like my desktop PC).

This is actually all you have to do these days. Windows 11 is very similar to Windows 10, they are technically both Windows NT v10.

All I've done so far is update the graphics drivers.

Definitely update your BIOS though, especially if win 11 support added.

Edit - There's an 'INF driver' update for Win11, for my ASRock motherboard, suppose I should install that too?

Windows 11's 22H2 is wreaking havoc on Nvidia-based gaming systems

Nvidia users may want to avoid this update, at least for now

Windows 11's latest update is causing problems for systems with Nvidia GPUs

Microsoft has started to roll out their 22H2 update for Windows 11, releasing the update to over 190 countries earlier this week. As is normally the case with Windows updates, the release of Windows 11's 22H2 update is causing issues for some users, with this update bringing problems to users of Nvidia graphics cards.

Windows 11's 22H2 update has been causing framerate for Geforce GPU users, resulting in stuttering in many games, audio issues in others, and full system crashes in one cases. Gamers who have reported these issues have claimed that rolling back Microsoft's 22H2 update for Windows 11 has fixed these performance and stability issues.

So far, these gaming related issues only appear to be impacting gaming systems with Nvidia GPU hardware, and the good news is that not all Geforce-powered gaming systems appear to be affected by these bugs. Even so, users of Nvidia GPUs should probably avoid Microsoft's 22H2 update, at least until the update has had these issues ironed out.
Both Nvidia and Microsoft are now aware of the issues affecting gamers with Windows 11's 22H2 update, which means that updates to Windows 11 and/or updates to Nvidia's Geforce GPU drivers should arrive sometime in the near future to address these performance/stability issues.

Gamers who are affected by the performance issues that are present within Microsoft's 22H2 update for Windows 11 should roll back the update to restore the performance and stability of their systems.

EDIT:

Nvidia states this to do if you have this problem :-

So, uninstall geforce experience for now, or update to the beta version.

Do I actually need geforce experience for anything? except maybe for recording videos.

MSI afterburner has better overclocking and undervolting capabilities.

True, probably not needed right now. Microsoft has said it will be required to support extra features coming to the OS 'soon'.

Lots of PCs/ laptops will be getting the update anyway, via win update.

On my laptop it says Coming Soon: Windows 11, 22H2

I've tried an inplace install, tbh.. I rolled back about an hour ago, very gritty when scrolling/browsing.
All smooth again now on 21H2. Yes I did try new drivers etc!
Apart from that, it works I guess.....

Took a chance and updated to 22H2, updated my GeForce Experience to v3.26 BETA as well before I tested games so not sure if I would have been fine without the BETA version. Tested out a few games and so far everything seems rock solid and performance in games is just as it was before I updated. Will keep and eye on things and I'll keep my old Windows install in disk clean-up just in case for now but so far so good.

The old install in disk cleanup will delete itself after 30 days anyway so all good!
