Windows 7 build 7057

I don't have a router, I connect through the Uni hall's network, you never know whats lurking out there! :)

that is true, but i for one would be happy with the protection of windows and whatever the uni has, can't help you on the firewall question myself but sure plenty of the chaps will recommend some

To fix folow this

Some are having a start up issue where the desktop ini file opens up.. to fix that..

1. Under Folder Options -> View , select "Show hidden files, folders and drives" and un-check "Hide protected operating system files" so that you can see the hidden desktop.ini files.

2. Open the start orb and at the search type: shell:startup and press Enter. The start menu startup folder will open, where you will find a desktop.ini file. Delete it.

3. Open the start orb and at the search type: shell:common startup and press Enter. The "all users" start menu startup folder will open, where you will find a desktop.ini file. Delete it too.

4. Done. Reboot and the desktop.ini will not appear again.

Thanks fella, that was bugging me:)

Ho hum :( Can't even get to the installer :(
Get to 'Windows is starting' (of the installer) then a light bluescreen with streams of light coming down and it just pauses there forever, mouse still moves etc etc :(

Was looking forward to this too :(

Quite possibly. Burned a couple of copies and both doing the same thing, I think it might be a problem with my dvd reader as I'm now having problems reading normal cds back in xp. Will stick another drive in when I can and report back :) Cheers :)

How long are you leaving it on that screen? usually takes a 2 - 5 minutes to pop up on this side, looks like it is doing nothing but it actually is.

djbenjo, install from usb instead, it's quicker..

Format the flash drive
Run CMD.EXE and type the following. Note: This set of commands assumes that the USB flash drive is addressed as "disk 1". you should double check that by doing a list of the disks (type "list disk") before cleaning it. If you have multiple hard drives, like an SDFlash drive or a Multibay drive, you could end up wiping your second drive using this command.

READ THIS WARNING ABOVE

1. diskpart
2. select disk 1
3. clean
4. create partition primary
5. select partition 1
6. active
7. format fs=fat32
8. assign
9. exit

Now copy all contents from the ISO / DVD to the flash drive

Reboot, and boot from USB

has the "issue" in 7048 where Media Player seems to endlessly search for updates been rectified yet? Didn't notice it in 7000 but got quite annoyed after it was still trying to update media info after an hour.

Also, anyone else noticed that if you happen to point My documents at a folder other than the default, it uses the default any way?
