Windows 7 Disc Install With No DVD Drive

Or just use the official MS link I posted which now works for Windows 7 owners.

Only for retail keys. My academic one it doesn't work for, but the stuff earlier about the SHA 5 will let me check if the disk I have is OK much faster than doing another download.

There are a lot of people who would say the optical drive has had its day.
I would be lost without one, even if it only gets used now and again.

I still got a drive in my system but I install windows by usb even installed an XP machine via usb :) but then I do have a lot of old pc games on cd and dvd :)

My preferred method,
Run Command Prompt as Admin

Simply copy the Windows image files to the USB and boot from USB.

Any idea how to reverse this? I've done this to a laptop drive and can't install a copy of Windows 8.1 onto it as I forgot I'd done the command prompt thing with it. I need to reverse that.

Dont quite understand this.

You want to reverse the USB drive ????

Just sling the USB drive in and format it under Windows.

If your having trouble installing Win 8.1 onto your laptop drive.

Boot up from the USB drive and do a CUSTOM install.

Delete ALL partitions on the HDD then create a new one, this will actually make three, if its UEFI.
Format the largest partition then select install.

Away you go.

I've just had this issue, I've had to find an iso from another source because my key is in the format xxxxx-xxx-xxxxxxx-xxxxx and so the official recovery tool doesn't accept it. What a ******* ball ache!!

The one posted earlier in the thread seems to be a bloody slow download but it will have to do.

Try the link in my sig for ISO's I use them at work all the time and have used them with OEM and refurb licences without any issues.

Microsoft pulled all these a few weeks back, they now want people to use their software recovery website.

Unfortunately the software recovery website doesn't accept OEM Keys  ...Thanks Microsoft!

I'm going to start building my new PC today. I have a legitimate copy of Windows 7 OEM, but I don't have a CD/DVD drive for my new system. Is there any way I can take Windows 7 off the disc and put it on a USB stick to install it on my new system that way?

You could buy a USB DVD drive.

Rule of thumb is to contact the OEM though... ;)

AVG flagged Imgburn as a Trojan. Can I not just copy/paste all the stuff from the DVD to my USB stick?

It's actually adware. It's how they make money (or by donations) while making the Imgburn software free.
When installing Imgburn it asks if you agree / accept (press cancel) to installing toolbar / bundled software, etc. Custom installation might be needed.
