Windows 8 Adoption Poor

Give it a rest, you've added nothing to this thread apart from moaning about me, if you can't form any kind of discussion why are you posting?

How would you like Windows 8 threads to go? You, Gareth, Elevon and Kitch can sit in a little circle and rave about how good it is? Because unfortunately that's not what everyone feels and as a group there seems to be an inability to cope with people expressing opinions other than your own. I don't care if you guys love it or not, you're welcome to your opinion, however you seem to think anyone with a different opinion is whinging.

It's a discussion forum, for discussing things. Grow up.

I hated it. Now I love it. It just takes a little while to settle in. I can tell you now that Win8 is faster in both the time it takes to do things and using the interface.

Windows 7 was such a leap, its a fantastic OS...no need to go to 8.

Best bet imo would be to get the illegal people to go legit, offer 7 at a cut price of say £40 and make a load of money on people going legit.

I would not say Win7 was such a leap more of a tweaked Vista if I was being honest ,afterall its based on Vista, anyway users have plenty of choices out there ie wait for Win8.1,9,10 etc or use one of the plenty free very good to excellent Linux Distro's out there, end of the day every OS including Win7,8 etc has limited life span and we all know there is always something else waiting around the corner regardless of what you are using.

I wanted to try windows 8 but I have missed out on all those cheap upgrades. All the options I see are now £100 ish. Way too much to upgrade. Will stick with windows 7 for now.

If they want to win over the pirates they need to drop all of the activation business, most pirates won't pay £4 to be inconvenienced let alone £40.

I'm amazed how some people are comfortable with pirated/hacked OS's. I certainly wouldn't be comfortable knowing whats tucked/hidden away. Though I also find it no great hassle to phone up Microsoft to active Windows. Takes just less than 5 minutes entering the 2 rows of 9 sections of 5 characters.

I am glad the days of £3xx OS's are gone.

Clevo?

Put what you want on them.

Not that I'd bother, after a few months of using it and forming habits I much prefer 8 to all previous ms os's, but I did always find the old start cumbersome with its small filetrees.

it would be interesting to find out of all the people that paid for windows 8 how many are still using it as I moved to windows 7 for compatibility reasons after 4 months.

I paid for Windows 8, tried it for a while and then moved back to 7. However, I've probably not given it long enough to get used to it, so I'll shortly be giving it another try (my life has been a lot busier lately so when I go to the computer I tend to just want something I know how to use immediately!).

I think I tried it briefly myself in the free msdn trial before deciding it's not for me but when it was to be £25 I thought I'd get it for the new direct X features promised in the future. I guess as soon as microsoft make windows 7 hard to use or lacking for new games and features I'll have to use it.

The figures in the thread showing adoption of Vista being much higher than 8 are due to the transition from 32bit to 64bit processors with more than 4gb of ram at the time with the first corei intel processors and xp64 was terrible so people had to use vista then 7.

Upgraded three of my Win7 PCs to Win8 and happy infact I don't understand people that get attached to a particular OS,every OS has a limited life span and yes I will be upgrading to WinBlue/8.1,9,10,11,12 etc....

If I was not gaming I would be on Linux for good (I do have one Linux PC btw) which is far superior to any Windows OS you can name including Win7.

I forgot to say no compatibility issues on my Win8 and that includes my huge game list and even old DOS/WIN95 games(using DOSBOX/D-fend).

I dual boot between 7 and 8. Just as I used to boot between XP, Vista and 7.

I can understand people dual-booting between XP and Vista/7/8 for compatibility reasons, but I'm struggling to find a reason why someone would have both 7 and 8. I'd either expect someone to dismiss the Modern UI of 8 or to accept it and replace 7. I'm curious... why both?

For the record, I'm not a fan of Modern UI and feel Microsoft should have gone much further to reinvigorate Windows, but really, the only thing I miss from Windows 7 is the recent items featured under each program... other than that, I struggle to understand most of the negatives. I just wish they'd either have implemented the performance enhancements in 7 in a service pack or a cheap Windows 7.5 or gone the whole hog and redone the way Windows presents itself... it's still too much of a half-way house for 99% of people. They had the chance to truly combine the desktop experience and the Start Menu and they ended up with 2 distinct operating systems in 1 - why? Windows 8 could have been great, but it's going to be seen as a technology triumph and a commercial disaster.

Because I upgraded the XP Pro licence to Windows 8. Dead OS soon, so why not? That and I've still got a soft spot for Aero.
