Windows 8 Consumer Preview Thread

Something that has taken years to develop, i've just downloaded in 7mins.

Quite remarkable internet speeds today.

It all depends on where you live... my download will take about 7 hours!

Other than satellite (no cable around here!) I have to rely on the poor performance of less that 1 Mb/s from a small section BT cable linking me to our nearest exchange.

Anyway, once I have downloaded it, I plan to carry out a new installation onto an SSD in a new Intel 2500K Z68 powered system, which should be interesting!

So it says you can launch games on your xbox as long as the disc is in the tray, what does that mean? The game will appear on your PC screen from the xbox or you can just make the 360 launch a game on its own screen?

"Xbox 360 games can be launched as well but with limited controls as only the face buttons plus up, down, left, right controls are available. So you'll mainly use it for browsing menus, Of course, the game disk has to be in the tray or the game has to be installed on the console already."

I feel your pain, 4 hours into the download and still another 10% to go!

I had to burn the ISO to a DVD and then boot from the DVD to instal to a 2nd HDD. Not sure if there's an easier way or not.

yes there is an easier way. don't even bother with DVD/usb. simply make sure your spare drive is already formatted as NTFS and has a drive letter. mount the ISO within your current windows desktop. virtual clone drive is good for this if you don't already have a tool....

after the ISO has mounted, DO NOT run setup from the root of the drive. instead browse to the sources folder of the mounted drive and run setup.exe from there. just follow the prompts on screen and make sure you choose a custom install and pick your empty partition/drive.

Wasn't too sure about the new start menu thing, but after a couple of hours using it, I'm starting to warm to it...

AMD drivers won't install though, fail each time.

Anyone else notice that the basic install size was 14.9GB? very small.

Is there anyway I can change what screen the start screen is on without changing the primary screen and also is there a way to make it stay up when I click on the other screen?#

Edit : Is the windows key the only way to open the start screen as well?
