Windows 8 Consumer Preview Thread

Is there anyway I can change what screen the start screen is on without changing the primary screen and also is there a way to make it stay up when I click on the other screen?

Think it only works on primary which is annoying me.

Also very good question about keeping metro on top - Let me know if you find the solution. TBH I want to install ultramon

Edit : Is the windows key the only way to open the start screen as well?

The start screen & apps show on whichever screen your main taskbar is on, right click and click "make this my main taskbar" on the other one :) (properties - multiple displays if you haven't got both showing)

or just drag it across like you would in windows 7.

Edit for your edit: I had forgotten about the windows key :D just hover the mouse over the bottom left of the screen - where the start button was in W7. There's more to discover there too, hold the mouse left and then up and it shows all the currently open apps.

edit 2: Ooh, just found you can snap an app and the desktop at the same time on one screen, very nice.

I know this sounds stupid, but I've just downloaded the iso and burnt it to a DVD. When I load the DVD I get the 2d fish and then an error that says I need to restart the pc. I'm trying to dual boot it with 7, am I doing anything wrong?

Had to format my machine unfortunatly.

Anyways, I cant get Origin to work at all.

I just get a MSVCR100.dll crash whenever I try to open it.

I can't install the AMD Drivers for some strange reason, it just wouldn't install.

I don't get how W8 works... some of you have a tile-based interface, and some of you the classic desktop with start menu.

Which one is it? Or are both included and you can switch between them at will?

The tile thing replaces the start menu, the normal desktop background runs behind it when you have it up.

Last test... Suspending the machine for a few hours and then overnight.... If it doesn't BSOD then it's going to be primary for the wife and the kids LOL

BTW When does this preview expire ?

EDIT : I'll answer for myself : "The Windows 8 Consumer Preview will expire on January 16th 2013"
