half price - you can just burn the thing to memory Stick for installation etc. Saves boxes on shelves.

Yep should be better than RP for you to play with. The information is probably out there, but I'm not sure whether you'll be able to use it as a base install for the retail upgrade come October and/or what it will allow you to migrate.
What is the lock screen supposed to show exactly? There is a settings area where you choose which apps to run in the background and show detailed info but they don't appear on my lock screen.
I just have the date, time, wireless signal and battery.

Should show things like how many unopened emails, calendar entries etc. Of course you need to be using the apps for that info to come through. Not sure how it will differ for the quick status v. detailed status app though.
I'm getting the detailed weather status, but not using any of the other apps to see what the quick status will give. I'd suspect it should show a mail icon and number, calendar icon and number to represent the app and the number of items unread/due.

Also once you have installed with either of the above can you put in a legit key after release and then not have to reinstall the os?
