Windows 8 Consumer Preview Thread

Has anyone noticed that IE (at least the app version) is a little over-aggressive with the caching? It keeps giving me old versions of thread pages on here for example.

So far as metro is concerned they appear to be settled on Metro being the new Start Menu. Much as people don't like it (except for some fan boys!) it is there to stay I think. Obviously they are thinking that companies might even develop their own business related Metro apps.

Personally I son't think business will touch it with a bargepole.

Finally decided to give this a shot. May as well get a heads up on what's coming rather than hide my head in the sand. Better to try now than and see if I like it so I know whether it will be worth forking out for.

Guys is there a nice easy way to get the bootldr to recognise windows 7 which exists on a different drive ?

I've got instructions to do a bootrec /scanos but how / from where(usb installer?) I don't know ?!

Really? Anyone who likes what's going on with Metro and the direction Windows is taking to move away from looking like a 20 year old desktop GUI is a "fanboy"? Are you 12? /sigh

Gave this a test last night and although there's a lot of work that's still yet to be done I can't say I particularly like all features.
I'm not a big fan of moving your mouse to the corner of the screen, it doesn't seem natural, I'd prefer to move it to the edges instead.

They really really need to place a Start Menu icon in its original place on the desktop, I keep going for it when it's not there, either that or remove the taskbar completely.
The fact that there was no natural start menu made it very difficult for me to add shortcuts to my desktop.

Other than that, it's fluid and I'm quite happy with the rest.

Win+Tab will bring up the left side menu for scrolling through active metro apps, bottom left hand link isn't needed as you can just bring up the metro interface by hitting the windows key. I don't know if there's a keyboard shortcut to bring up the rhs menu but there should be.

I've actually found myself using the keyboard more with Windows 8 than the mouse though the native Metro apps are horrible to navigate through currently with either method.

I do like the ability to just start typing onto the metro ui and it start searching all programs etc but i really struggle to see the value of live tiles.... Hopefully as more apps are released people will find interesting ways of using them. I'd have much preferred a more widgety type thing a la android fwiw
