Windows 8 is....

I'm tempted to install the preview. What are the chances you'll be able to upgrade to retail from the RTM? Just don't have the patience to keep format reinstalling these days.

EDIT: Read the small print. The answer is nein

The preview? The preview was pre-RTM. You can't upgrade from the preview to RTM/retail. The RTM (assuming you don't install the enterprise RTM) IS retail.

@Elevon. i have to say that's probably the foulest start screen i've ever seen. :D

I've seen a lot worst and normally they are afraid to post their screenshots ;) ,I'm very happy with it and that what counts ie neat old desktop UI and Metro organised to my needs with big tiles for things I use more.

:D

I am getting sick of these. We know that some people don't like Windows 8. We also know that some people do. Can we not just leave it at that? I've repeated my gripes enough times, to have people ignore those gripes and not actually just admit, "Yes, an option would have been a good idea at least for the early OSes of the Start Screen."

If Elevon, theheyes, gareth & Glaucus all just agree to that I will stop posting it. ;)

Hold on there, first we did not make this thread, second we are all allowed to reply and from what I have seen we have all been polite so don't know why you are acting like this, sure we can disagree but that works both ways.

Just remember this is a forum which is for posting, all I did was state my opinion is that wrong?

:)

Another daft question... if I have the Windows 8.1 RTM now... can I run it in trial mode, untill I purchase it when it's released in around 2 weeks time, when I have a key?

I've never installed any Windows 8 version before...

 whens the last time i got into a heated debate about it?
Other than replying to things that have changed or interesting I haven't done that for ages, haters going to hate, in the meanwhile its still building marketshare.

You need 8.1, 8 is a bit dodgy imo.

Just make sure that you organise your applications and things will be fine.

A little adjustment is needed with the location of applications but once you have setup your desktop, task-bar pins etc. things are pretty sweet.

I was more than happy to trade a little familarity for the additional performance and tweaks 8.1 gives you.

I don't know whether its the DPI tweaks in 8.1 but on my 1440p IPS panel, Windows has never looked so good or so sharp.

BF4 is the first application to run flawlessly on 7970 trifire, that is down to 8.1.

thanks, i will get it when its out in 2 weeks.

Windows 8 looks lovely and is awesome.
+1

yet another thread about win8. it isn't needed tbh.. if the person prefers win7 fine stick with it. why the need to make a new thread just so the same people from other win8 thread will say the same things over and over again.

it's up to MS what they change/add/remove to they own OS. has a user we have a choice to use it or not.

simple.

It's a bit much getting called out in a thread I haven't even posted in. That's really not fair and bringing it down to a personal level. Don't lump me in with other posters.

I went out of my way to apologise to you to diffuse a thread a few weeks ago because you felt you'd been jumped on. I'd actually done no such thing, but I respected you as a fellow poster and thought I'd show a bit of humility and try to get the discussion back on a constructive track.

At this moment, I wish I hadn't bothered. Because what do I get for my trouble? Tarred with a massive brush, that's what.

Edit - fair play you apologised privately for any misunderstanding. I took exception to being called out specifically with the implication that I am not accepting of other peoples views, which isn't true. Hopefully continued discussions will be good natured and further references will be quoted in context. Thanks for getting in touch.
