Windows 8 User thread

Very strange, because I've installed both the developers and non-developers 64bit versions and neither appear to have apps. In Metro clicking on any title, except Control Panel results in nothing apart from the click animation on the title. I'm obviously missing something, but I can't see what it is.
I get the same thing. Tbh I'm not that fussed about metro right now so after clicking a few and finding nothing worked I left it at that.

Thanks and added it to OP, have you tried using split screen. I'm sure you need 1366 to get all features, but can't remember what they are.

is this still the same for the large 4.8 gig image?

I have the smaller 3.6 gig image loaded onto a laptop with screen res of 1024x768 and the apps dont work.

Not sure if this is what you mean?

I think it's because we picked the one without the in-built apps. It looks like we can download the apps from here and over here we can get the in-built sample apps. Trying them now and I'll let you know how I get on.

Has anybody tried getting this onto a tablet or something?

kd

No but I would love to try.
But would need to wait for other people to do it.

What are tegra2 chips based on? Do windows support them. Could we get one of the new really cheap android tablets and install it through USB or something.

If you could do that and it works, when beta comes out, could switch and sell the iPad and hopefully reduce any loss by selling it before ipad3 comes out.

Yeah, I'd love to try it myself! With the Windows 8 moveability between desktop and tablet, I can actually see a tablet being incredibly useful now for university....

Microsoft have just given away 5000 tablets to the dev's at Build... I don't think these tablets were Tegra 3, so presumably there must be a way to do it somehow...

Also am wondering how long it will take to make the tap to share feature that was advertised as a usable card in a standard PC.... (like a PC card or something)

The tablets given out were running on i5 ULV hardware. No ARM support in the public domain yet, sadly. Going to be envious of those people who bagged a cheap Touchpad when it lands though, slap Win8 on it and they have a right bargain!

I have an atom tablet at work doing nothing, I might try to install it on that tomorrow or borrow it for the weekend.

Have it running on a very average pentium laptop with 1GB RAM and integrated graphics - very smooth.

One of the main reasons I bagged the 32GB version.:p

I can't wait to play an ARM version, that is if it will work on the Touchpad.

Now I remember why I always hated the idea of HTML5 only browsers (ie Apple mobile devices)...

Youtube opt in service loads the player but not the actual video...
Vimeo doesn't work at all...

Hopefully stuff gets sorted before the actual release... I can cope with not having a video service on a small screen mobile device but not a proper device!

EDIT: Obviously for truly desktop usage the normal browser would be fine.. :D

How many have installed Win8 as dual boot with Win7? Considering it on my main machine and even though it's fully backed up I'm still a bit nervous.

Also, anyone have any handy tips for sideways scrolling on the Start screen with a mouse? I find using the scroll bar is a bit awkward.
