Windows 8 User thread

How many have installed Win8 as dual boot with Win7? Considering it on my main machine and even though it's fully backed up I'm still a bit nervous.

Also, anyone have any handy tips for sideways scrolling on the Start screen with a mouse? I find using the scroll bar is a bit awkward.

If you have a spare disk or partition on a secondary disk ....

Disabled primary disk within BIOS and installed by overwriting Ubuntu alpha ! * blasphemy I say ;)

Re-enabled the primary disk and toggle which disk to boot from this way keeping both MBRs separate

I was thinking of clawing back some space on my primary disk to create a partition there. I thought Win8 came with a nice new boot loader?

Think I'll give it a go, worst happens I just restore everything from my backup!

Has anybody got it running in ESXi 5.0? I’ve tried and coming up with the message:

“Your PC ran into a problem that it couldn’t handle, and now it needs to restart.

You can search for the error online: HAL_INITIALIZATION_FAILED”

Yes it does come with a new boot loader.

Got Windows 8 running on the same HDD as Windows 7 and no issues at all at the moment.

At first I wasn't to sure on the Metro UI but I am LOVING it. Hopefully when you install games and programs on Windows 8 you can stick a tile on Metro and access it that way.

with vmware, only the latest version of workstation released a couple of days ago supports windows 8.

So far i have to say that i don't like the green colour or the font used during the installation process.

Also on the "home screen" none of the buttons/tiles seem to do anything.

As i suspected :( this new metro UI is built in to the explorer process, well this is bad news. MS design and dev department think we are living in the minority report movie or something.

WHAT?

So wait, they built this new tablet OS but it has a minimum supported resolution of a desktop PC? :D

Excuse me while i **** my self laughing.

Ok we get it, you hate the pre beta dev preview of Windows 8 is there realy any need to go on and on?

Stop whining about things that might not even make the release version with is 6-12 months away. If you're not a developer why are you even concerning yourself. Stick with Windows 7 and don't buy 8.

1024 is hardly ridiculous, is it? all tablets will have that at least. obviously it will be a requirement to be windows 8 certified. 1368 is required to have 2 metro apps running side by side.

I am very disappointed that the metro game can not be removed or the process can not be killed. This means that people will have to modify the explorer process to remove this tablet ui. Which is pretty poor.

My one wish for windows 8 is to put the metro game in to a separate process and not to make it apart of explorer.

Again watch the keynotes and stop making yourself look silly. Not that your the only one.
Metro UI actually works really well, once you get over the learning curve.

In what way does it work realy well, how do you find it functional ? What do you think you will use it for? for example the stock application seems very gimmicky, no person actually viewing stocks would use it, they would rather go to a website and view stocks with more detail etc.

I am a bit annoyed, ms makes £billion and they come out with this.

At least I found a way to disable metro UI completely. Unfortunately, as i suspected it disables a lot of the new features as well, like the new task manager.
