Windows 9

each yearly os release will only bring major improvements/updates over previous one, just like service parks give major improvements/updates. and they may reduce the support lifetime.

people may think it's good having yearly os releases, but it's not tbh. because we are now be paying for major improvements/updates which we got for free with service parks before

What recent service packs have given us major improvements?

And a reduction in support lifecycle is complete conjecture at this point in time.

where did I say recent service packs?

Ok, when was the last one? Because XP SP2 is the last one I can think of, and that's so old it's irrelevant. Plus it was a massive outlier as far as service packs go.

Service packs are just roll ups of updates, with the occasional small feature addition. They aren't comparable to a major upgrade and kernel update which is what we seem to be getting with Windows Blue.

but nobody really knows if updating metro can't be done through a service pack

Clueless springs to mind.

It's software there is no can't.

Services packs do not include massive feature upgrades, never have. Technology, the market, usage changes far to fast for a three yearly update.

blue doesn't include massive feature upgrades. which is my point.. it's more about improving metro

but hey if you think having yearly releases is good then that's ok but personally I don't, and i'm not wrong to think that.

I would say you are for thinking that, just look how far they are behind on mobile devices, due to the three year cycle. Mobile devices make up something like 2/3rds of the market. So all though they might still be top dog in desktops. In general terms they aren't the top dog at all and are hemorrhaging marketshare.

Too bad you're wrong. HP, the worlds largest global it service provider has literally just upgraded most of its corporate COE image to Win 8

From what I have been reading although Win8 sales are poor overall, business adoption is better than public adoption.

Just today I say a headline 93% of home buyers choose Win7.

if that's the case they could have done a yearly release for Mobile devices...

doing this yearly release for desktop has well only comes down to one thing, grabbing more money from people for little improvements. which most people would wait 2-3 years before upgrading anyway to get a bigger improvements/ changes

No they can't do a yearly release for mobile. Have you seen there plan? It's a very good plan.

Not at all. It comes down to sensible business choices. Three yearly is not fast enough, they've been left behind before.

Microsoft is getting rid of the boarders between mobile and desktop. That's why they can't update one without the other. W8 is quite there yet. But windows will be one version on all devices, with one version of an app working on all devices. This is good for the consumers and developers.

The old start didnt have live updates and useful information.
There also wasn't two sets of apps. Some people want metro with snap on one screen, displaying say twitter and music. With their conventional desktop with work apps on another screen.

-A non full screen Start menu.
-Aero
-Dual pane explorer, like total commander.
-Ability to disable metro completely including alt+tab and notifications.
-Redsign of the control panel to make it more stream lined.
-A less user friendly approach, majority of people know how to work a pc these days, target market is no longer people that have never used a pc before.
-A power user mode where you can turn off all the annoying crap like action center and similar.
-more taskbar features similar to the features that taskbar tweaker brings.
-more alt+tab features similar to the features vista switcher brings.
-Option to remove jump lists completely
-A full operating system proxy that supports socks like proxifier.
-Make the login screen, start orb and windows themes configuable by default without third party applications like, start orb changer, windows logon changer, uxtheme hack etc.
-Bring back the windows xp file type dialog in folder options or better, make a better one.

I could probably think of more, given enough time.

How many of those will be in windows 9? probably none. But worth mentioning anyway.

How will windows 9 look? think Metro but without the windows 7 element and add less functionality and more annoying notifications and more cloud based integration.

How do you now said updates would offer little/nothing?
.

It works pretty well for osx
anything I say u will make out i'm wrong.

everybody has they own opinions. your opinion is you think having yearly releases is good then that's ok, and I've never said your wrong to think that, same goes for my opinion which is I don't think having yearly releases is good and i'm not wrong to think that .

also someone else said he hopes they don't go on yearly upgrades, so it's not only me that thinks it.

so let's just leave it as that mate

They will do.

Many people today are still using XP, if Microsoft are stubborn about the new GUI the same will be the case with Windows 7, it's Microsoft's loss really unless they can somehow take the tablet market by storm.

Windows 7 got rid of the classic start menu but I don't recall such a hue and cry about it.
