Windows 9

What's win8 have to do with it.
And why would you have to pay for updates, that's just jibber iss.

It very much looks like they will move to a yearly cycle just like apple. This ensures they don't fall behind and they can offer it for much cheaper, but more payments.

Now it'll be yearly and at say ~£25 with the lost money made up with the store income.
your saying if ms does their yearly windows release and the price is around £25~ but im saying that it will be just a promotion offer like win8 was..

also yes we will be paying for updates such as blue because blue only brings updates and improvements in metro which they could have done in a SP.

and if they start doing a subscription base windows a lot of people will move away from windows, including me.

Wn8 wasn't a yearly update though, so why are you on about the price of that.

So packs have never included massive feature upgrades.

Think of it more like sox upgrades.
It won't be subscription.

Even though Microsoft remains completely tight-lipped on the first major refresh of its newly-released Windows 8, more evidence points to a so-called Windows Blue update that could arrive as soon as this summer.

A new software development engineer job listing confirms that Windows Blue is currently under development, but also reveals some new details about the upcoming software.

It appears that Windows Blue will be based on the existing user interface, but will feature major improvements to many aspects of the operating system.

“We’re looking for an excellent, experienced SDET to join the Core Experience team in Windows Sustained Engineering (WinSE). The Core Experience features are the centerpiece of the new Windows UI, representing most of what customers touch and see in the OS. Windows Blue promises to build and improve upon these aspects of the OS, enhancing ease of use and the overall user experience on devices and PCs worldwide,” the job ad spotted by ZDNet reads.

A recent rumor indicated that Microsoft is planning to push the Blue update beyond the Windows platform, so major changes are very likely to spread across the company’s product range, including Windows Phone, SkyDrive and Internet Explorer.

A Microsoft job reference to Windows Phone Blue suggests that the Redmond-based technology giant is working on what it’s being called “Excel MX,” a touch-optimized version of the spreadsheet app capable of running in Metro mode.

It won't make them more money, certainly not on a yearly cycle.
People would just wait, it would make no sense on a yearly cycle.

They aren't going to offer it for free, they do not have the same business model as google.
They are not advertisement revenu driven and as such coporation like them unlike google.

I wouldn't rule out this particular update being free you know.

The two biggest weaknesses with Windows 8 and Windows RT at the moment are version 1 niggles with Metro and a fledgling app store that is some way behind the competition.

Microsoft want to cultivate the Metro ecosystem and make it easier to develop apps that run across the whole range of devices, and even Windows Phone. Throwing up a pay wall in front of the update that enables these benefits doesn't make much sense.

why when I say something you reply with something totally different...

blue is a major improvement/update over win8, and with future yearly releases we will only see major improvements/updates over the previous one. I can't see us getting getting any big improvements/updates over the previous ones with yearly releases

That was an add on,not a direct reply. Hence the

I don't understand the question, unless you literally mean yearly releases will be major updates, in which case off course. Compared to the 3yearly major overhauls that have come before.

but surely they going to have to many windows versions out to keep updated / security updated after say 4years, unless they are reducing the windows support life time

According to Microsoft most enterprise customers have moved to Windows 7 now. But that still doesn't mean lots aren't still on XP.
