4GB Crucial Ballistix

Some tips for speeding up boot times that I have picked up. These can be tailored for preference.

Run msconfig from cmd/run

From the Boot tab select No GUI boot and the Timeout to 3 seconds. In the Advanced button you can select multiple CPUs/cores to speed things up more.

From the services tab click the 'Hide all microsoft Services' button then click disable all. You can also disable some windows services that you don't need. eg. Print spooler if you don't have a printer and Disk Defragger if you have an SSD. Plus a few more...

From the startup tab select what programs you actually want on startup.

Disable Windows Aero/use Win classic view. A clean desktop with no wallpaper also helps.

Doing just a few of these improved my boot times by some 30 seconds.

13 seconds!? damn dude that's impressive

I've SO gotta get me one of these SSD's lol the HDD seems to be the serious weak link in my chain :(

Guys, out of interest, what score do your SSD's get in the windows experience index? My Seagate scores 5.9 - with some of these boot speeds I can see the SSD's doubling that!

Mine get's 7.2 matey, but SandForce drives range between 7.4-7.9 (the max) now.

Get one of these, should get to 7.7 http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-047-OC&groupid=1657&catid=1660&subcat=

Cant really justify the price of one atm.

I agree to be honest... I mean yeah, they're amazingly fast but for the price they're stupidly small... I saw someone on here with a 250GB one so I looked on ocuk and it's over £500!!! Insane money

I'll definately get one when the prices plummet though :)

*scanning the bay of e...* lol

Trying to get this to work, but nothing comes up after a reboot.

Want to compare my current mechanical disk to my shiny new SSD arriving tomorrow!
