Windows cannot find drives. (PLEASE HELP!)

Possibly not, If you set to RAID they wont but theres another utility on boot where you configure then , im not sure if AHCI does the same, but wouldnt be supprised , id just try windows m8, can always switch it back , wont hurt anything

Basically running out of idea's and really this should work , but then i've said that b4

Its strange that the BIOS can detect it in NativeIDE , but windows ignores it , but I'm hoping its something to do with the capacity of the drive causing the issue

All the rest are none.

Hi all. :-)

Can i just check that the DVD/CD Drive is Pata and you have set the jumper to Cable Select?

Im not sure how the drivers are controlled on the board for the PATA and SATA controllers but worth a check as it could be a problem if there related.

oh man , I kind of hope that your right , if my last suggestion hasn't worked.
I've never seen a SATA/PATA optical drive , never even considered it might have anything to do with it, as usually with EIDE have a cdrom set wrong on the same cable as a HDD would mean the HDD wouldnt get detected in the BIOS

I always use USB cdrom's

we have a new error guys haha. "the [*driver name*] device driver could not be installed. Contact your vendor for an updated driver". deary me. maybe GIGABYTE have a driver i could download?

Shame you don't have a USB CDrom drive so you can test it in NativeIDE with that optical drive unplugged
BUT
Check what TWiNKLeT0Es has suggested and reset the BIOS too NativeIDE then give it a try , if setting the Optical drive too cable select fixes the problem , I appologise for making you run through so much stuff and waste so much of your time

A new error is good news we are on the move.

Set everything you changed in the BIOS back to what they were and try again. :-)

:Edit:

Hopefully the simple solution is the fix depending on how fussy the board is but NO possible solution is a waste of time. :-) (Hence mine lol)

Yeah I guess when fault finding , sometimes you have too eliminate everything b4 the simple solution presents itself.
If the optical drive is the fault , we've been working to fix a fault the long way around.
Still it's how we learn ;)

Is this the Optical Drive you have Sony Optiarc AD-5260S 24x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter

The write up on that says its SATA not PATA , but then has me thinking , do they just say they are SATA rather than confuse the issue. If its possible too be more confused than now with this machine :p

Hi ms2010

It seems to be Pata and using the IDE cable reading his post i quoted above as there is no slave drive.

But who knows we will see.

:Edit:

As i said it might be a board issue with the driver and controllers if there both attached at the same time and the jumper not set correctly.

Here is hoping all is well...?

It's a frustrating fault , one of those you really want too get your hand on and fix
Reading the manual again had another idea it might work plugging the Optical drive into SATA3_4 or 5 as it seems they are handled seperatly from the first 4 SATA3_0 - 3.

I notice jackmonty57's dropped offline though now , probably had enough for tonight hehe

Like you said will just have to wait and see ;)

im here dont worry. Im totally lost have no idea whats going on, and to make matters worse the driver cd doesnt match whats in the manual. I hope its something to do with the DVDRW cause its doing my head in. The whole reason i dissapeared is cause im using some lame laptop haha. Not a clue what ive to do now

Ok so at this point , you want to

Reset

OnChip SATA Controller [Enabled]
OnChip SATA Type [NativeIDE]<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
x OnChip SATA Port4/5 Type IDE
x OnChip SATA RAID5 Support Enabled
OnChip SATA3.0 Suuport [Enabled]
Onboard GSATA/IDE Ctrl [Enabled]
Onboard GSATA/IDE Mode [IDE]

Then check the back of your optical drive , probably means having too remove it from the case , look for a link for cable select or marked CS , might have Master / Slave /CS on there , change the link to CS , then reconnect it and give it a whirl.

Lets hope we don't need the driver's then :p

Sorry if i made things more complicated?

If anything i would start again and reset your settings and make sure the jumpers are in the correct place and start all over again. What did you change to get that new error message you posted as that was a good start as something had changed? Can you take a picture of the inside of your PC including if you can a close up of behind your CD/DVD Drive?

:Edit:

Ill leave you in capable hands. :-)

Good Luck! :-)

Tried changing to AHCI instead of NativeIDE , then the error message changed.

Have so far just changed the connector the HDD is connecting too from SATA3_6 (one of the raid ports) too one of the 4 ports SATA3_0 - SATA3_3
Reconfigured the BIOS too AHCI but got an error message in windows saying wrong driver
Probably a lot more than that but I can't remmber at this time of night and its become a long thread :p

I was running out of idea's and would never have considered the optical drive and PATA so glad you posted :)

Im still reading as im intrigued but it still seems uncertain what connection your CD/DVD drive is using? If you change IDE to AHCI you will have to reinstall so do it once only and try everything you can then go back to IDE.

:Edit:

Use Imageshack or Photobucket if they work on IPhone?

Or just email to yourself and do what you can on the laptop using the sites above.

photos coming. I changed the thingy to AHCI. Il try reset everything and shift the HDD to 4 and the DVDRW to 0.

Changed it too NativeIDE you mean? because you want to set it back too NativeIDE (the default setting, how it was at the start)
We know in NativeIDE the BIOS saw the HDD and Optical Drive , just windows ignored the HDD.

Which hopefully, will be due to the Optical drives jumper settings , if you manage to change that too CS

If you change IDE to AHCI you will have to reinstall
hehe if we can get the windows setup to see the HDD I think it will stay in whatever setting its in at that time. Would be a start too beable too Install in the first place lol :p
