Sony Optiarc AD-5260S 24x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM. whats a jumper :(

If its got any jumper's there will be likke metal pins on the back somewhere , and a usually black link across 2 of them , you move that link around to set different modes like master/slave/Cable select

Thats on EIDE devices , Im not sure about SATA/PATA

He doesn't have an operating system installed atm m8 , the problem is the BIOS can detect the HDD and Optical Drive, But when you get too the windows setup, it says there's no drive to install too.

well I await with unending anticipation for jackmonty57 to post and say pulling the battery and resetting the BIOS now has it working

This had been suggested though?

You know I think its about the only thing I havent said too do , what did I say earlier about eliminating everything b4 the simple solution presents itelf?
It'll be the first darn thing I try on every fault I see now , and it'll never fix a darn thing , you watch :p

Hey, having a look around on google I think the problem might be that the Samsung F3 drives and the AMD SB850 south bridge chip, which this board has, do have a problem of working together which can lead to BSOD and instalbility of drives. Apparently samsung have released a new firmware for their F3 drives which solve the problems. The link is below to a forum discussion at gigabyte:

Samsung F3 and AMD SB850 southbridge problem

Hope this helps you and is the cause of your problem.
