Windows cannot find drives. (PLEASE HELP!)

Ok , errrrm

In the BIOS , under Standard CMOS features , where it displays date and time and also
IDE Channel 0 Master
IDE Channel 0 Slave

etc.

can you just check and tell me what the hdd is detected as and what channel its displayed on.

It's just checking something that i've been assuming is ok as you said the HDD is detected in the BIOS , as Im running out of idea.

Really would have thought it should be working by now.

If it is detected in the BIOS but not by the Windows install then it is needing a driver for the setup portion of Windows. This is applied before you try to partition or format the drive.

reset "onboard gsata/ IDE mode" to ahci. there is another option is "onboard esata mode". will i change this to ahci?

Just noticed you said you reset Onboard GSATA

Setting i meant was OnChip SATA , change that to AHCI

OnChip SATA Controller [Enabled]
OnChip SATA Type [Native IDE]<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
x OnChip SATA Port4/5 Type IDE
x OnChip SATA RAID5 Support Enabled
OnChip SATA3.0 Suuport [Enabled]
Onboard GSATA/IDE Ctrl [Enabled]
Onboard GSATA/IDE Mode [IDE]
Onboard ESATA controller [Enabled]
Onboard ESATA Mode [IDE]

Not sure it's going to help , but its worth a try , i didnt notice till just , that it looked like you changed the wrong setting

now wait! just about to run the windows startup. on the black screen at the start there was like a driver detection thingy came up (sorry sounds stupid) and both the HDD and DVDrw came up as detected. heres hoping.

Well the only other thing I can think of is too try and load a driver for the controler which is one of the 1st things i came up with , but the manual doesn't mention drivers unless your using RAID.

Page 91 of the manual covers that, Click Load Driver and put the motherboard driver disk in and find the driver on there.

Its strange though because I would have thought SATA controlers should work out of the box without drivers for a single drive, but maybe this SATA3 controler needs it , manual hasn't really helped to much

Are you trying to install a raid ?

If not simply install with one drive plugged in only then plug the other drive in when windows is installed then in disk management add the drive

Page 87 of the manual has a list of drivers for AHCI and Raid

So if you correctly change that setting to AHCI and pick the AHCI driver that correponds with the O/S your installing maybe that will work.

I just can't believe it should be this difficult lol , its probably one of those things that if I had the machine in front of me it wouldn't take too long to resolve, but even then theres no guarrantee :p

Ok just taking a step back for a second just to verify AHCI is setup

In Intergrated Periperals is it set like this

OnChip SATA Controller [Enabled]
OnChip SATA Type [AHCI]<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
x OnChip SATA Port4/5 Type IDE
x OnChip SATA RAID5 Support Enabled
OnChip SATA3.0 Suuport [Enabled]
Onboard GSATA/IDE Ctrl [Enabled]
Onboard GSATA/IDE Mode [IDE]
Onboard ESATA controller [Enabled]
Onboard ESATA Mode [IDE]

If you set it like that then retry and pick the AHCI driver again in the setup
