Windows Home Server

I would have thought you could automate that process? Set it to Hibernate/sleep after X minutes inactivity, with a wake-on-lan letting other machines access it when required.

I use Grid Junction (addin for UPS) which overrides the hibernation function of WHS, so I'm waiting for the author of this addin to create a new version of it (v1.4.1) with this function added...

I had looked at LightsOut, but (if I'm not mistaken) you can only set it up so that it has to run each day and there was no option to manually wake up and hibernate the WHS box, there may also have been some other restriction with it...been a while since I looked at it, but the new version of Grid Junction will do exactly what I wish...

Lightsout addin allows you to:
...

2) Prevent your computer from shutting down if clients, network addresses are using x amount of bandwidth or if a backup is in process.

Where do I find those settings?

At the moment I have it hibernate 10 mins after the last client disconnects, but this means I have to have a client pc turned on when using my Xtreamer else the WHS will go into hibernation during playback.

Go into the LO page on the console, into the status page, click settings under monitored sources, click more and there you'll find it.

It was definitely not in the earlier versions. it came out in the latest version.

The actual setting is under Monitored sources

One thing that really irritates me about WHS is that you can't remove the default folders.

Looking forward to a stable version of WHSv2, but given that it's Microsoft I wouldn't use it until it's had a few service packs ;).

Just put another HDD in my case and got it added ok. However, when I start WHS I now get the following error:

"At least one service or driver failed during system startup. Check event viewer"

I've looked in event viwer and the only thing is this error:

"schannel - Event ID=36870"

I can log into the server from my PC and access all my files so not sure what's happening. Anyone shed any light on this?

hey guys, If I reinstalled WHS on a different machine and brought all my data store hdds could I just add them to it and all be fine and dandy without losing information ?

v2 looks like itll kick my idea of a power friendly unit using an atom processor to the curb .....

so what happens if your machine kicks the kirb..... :S

You make a backup of your shares.

i.e a backup of your server.

I myself have the drives with duplication on

Then I have the server backed up to a number of external drives.

So for example

Flood kills the server and internal drives...

I rebuild a new server and "reinstate" the server backup of those shares from my external drives upstairs.

Note: These drives upstairs are not part of the storage pool. But server backup USB disks.
