Windows XP SP3

I have no problems with SP2 now. I don't see any problems with just keeping SP2 and not risking (it's a new service pack from Microsoft) SP3. Am I missing anything, like security patches that for some reason can only be installed with SP3?

Calm down people, there is no rush :)
All my xp machines run fine without sp3. Once its been out for a few months with no reported problems then I will give it a go.

Got me duster out (well, changed my boot order) and booted into XP and installed it. I am completely underwhelmed by it. No problems though, smooth install.

what were you expecting to happen? the OS to suddenly turn to Vista or something?

service packs are just all the MS Patches released since the last time, with maybe 1 or 2 new whatsits thrown in for good measure. they have NEVER been large changes.

I assume there won't be a SP3 for x64 for a while?

Doesn't XP x64 follow the Windows Server 2003 schedule?

XP x64 doesn't really need a service pack though? its a much better OS than regular XP, so there are many less patches for it.

i've always noticed that XP 32 on my laptop always has about 5x as many patches per month as my Server2003 x64 Desktop.

StyleXP doesn't work with SP3 so I just uninstalled it.

Don't use StyleXP its expensive for what it does and its hogs some system resources!!!..

Use the uxtheme.dll patch instead!...

There is a new version of it and the Replacer for SP3...

Heres a linkie to a .zip file of both!.. http://simon2808.googlepages.com/ThemePatchSP3.zip

Just follow what the Text file says and you can use all the un-signed Themes available without using the same resources StyleXP does!

A lot of security patches for a 316mb file...

Service Pack 2 (SP2) (codenamed "Springboard") was released on August 6, 2004

Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) build 5512 was released to manufacturing on April 21, 2008 and to the public via both the Microsoft Download Center and Windows Update on May 6, 2008

There seems to be almost four years of fixes in SP3. That's a lot more than SP2, which IIRC followed about 18 months after SP1.

Well Slashdot is reporting hundreds of errors and all sorts. Think ill give this one a miss for a moment.

Is anyone else loosing all trust in MS? Vista provides completely ramdom and different experiences for users, and now the SP3 for XP appears to be doing the same.

Downloading now. :)
