Windows XP -> Windows 7?

How does 7 run with only 2B of RAM?

I only have 2 which is fine for 32bit XP OS. Im keen to try this beta :)

I tried the beta with 1.5GB RAM. Ran really well. Seems much less memory-hungry than Vista.

Ive been running it with only 1GB in a virtual machine. Seems pleanty responsive enough for general desktop stuff.

MS have also demoed it running on an EEE PC with 1GB of RAM.

Now that IS good news!

I will try and get a key when i get home from work but suspect ill be out of luck if its limited to 2.5 million..

*crosses fingers*

You telling me you think i dont know what MSDN is? And not that I was meerly suggesting in jest that you had torrented the Windows 7 iso because that is what everyone is done and I found it quite funny you were suggesting you may have got it from MSDN.

MSDN seems to have a almost mythical presence on these forums where people barely seem to believe anyone really has access to it...

Well it's not true. It does exist, work and lots of people use it regularly for all their Microsoft bits!

Here is what it looks like to download something from it...

Never used VM software. Is it simply a case of installing on C: drive and running it, to install e.g. Windows 7 beta?

I shall be dual booting XP and Windows 7. Have Vista on the laptop, and whilst I have not had any problems, early rumours of Windows 7 stopped me purchasing Vista.

I am actually looking forward to trying the beta. :)

Light heirted humor seems to have a mythical presence too.

There are variations, but I have used Virtual PC (rubbish) and currently use VirtualBox (much better). They are applications that you install on your computer, which you tehn setup a virtual PC with. They will use a virtual hard drive wich will be a file on your mahcine, and you can control other things like the CD drive can be either the actual drive on your machine, or you can make it grab images and stuff. When you run it it runs an application that 'thinks' its a PC, which you can then install stuff on,and run full screen. Basically, it runs Windows 7 (or whatever guest OS you install) as an application ontop of your current (host) OS, But Windows 7 will think its running on a proper PC.

ITs very good for testing as you cant break anything. You alocate it an ammount fo RAM from your machine which it will use exclusively.

Best way to learn, download VirtualBox and install some stuff. Chuck some Linux Distros on there to learn how it all sets up if you want, or just install whatever OS you have lying around. Playing is the best way to learn :)

Cheers :) Will give VirtualBox a go.

Is there any way to get the startbar etc to look like the vista one? I think the windows 7 one looks ugly as hell
