Windows XP -> Windows 7?

As for the beta of Windows 7 itself, I obtained mine through MSDN.

That a new torrent site I havent heard of? :)

Its waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to early to say "ill definately get 7 as soon as its out" as if its anything like the Vista betas, it will change a lot, and my opinion may go from "Wow, this is cool" to "I ******* hate this pile of junk!"

I think Windows 7 will be a good opportunity for irrational Vista haters to join in on reality without losing face ;)

I wonder why you bother too.

You telling me you think i dont know what MSDN is? And not that I was meerly suggesting in jest that you had torrented the Windows 7 iso because that is what everyone is done and I found it quite funny you were suggesting you may have got it from MSDN.

But I DID get mine from an MSDN subscription.

So I don't take lightly to the accusation.

Will probably wait for 7 to go to SP1 before committing myself to changing OSes. Still very happy with XP, yes I am a Vista hater. Had nothing but grief with it, so will wait and see what the consensus is on 7 before shelling out.

And as for work, we're still on Windows 2000, so doubt we'll see W7 anytime soon :D

I reckon anyone who stays with Vista, once Windows 7 is out, will only be shooting themselves in the foot.

I dunno, to some people the idea of paying out a load of cash to replace an OS they are happy with, and then have the hassle of having to install and configure it all may not be viewed as shooting themselves in the foot. Likewise I can't see businesses who have rolled out vista to workstations (more typically laptops) won't be falling over themselves to upgrade I bet. And then there's always the chance of poorly written drivers/software that refuse to install on Windows7 because the version number is wrong. Take logitech for example, they are notoriously bad in terms of Day0 driver support, as we saw when WinXP was released (i.e. you couldn't just use a win2k driver for some of their hardware).

Vista runs like a bloated slug on all machines i've tried it on (you havent installed it properly, you dont know what you are doing blah blah blah).
I will certainly test windows 7 at some point but unless it offers me any must have cant live without features then I will stick with xp.

People telling you those things are correct. On any modern system Vista will fly.

Out of interest, what did XP give you in terms of "must have cant live without features" that Windows 2000 didn't have?

When is it due?

Just got round to getting 64 vista so will probably wait and see what people think of Win 7 before trying myself. Dual boot is the way to go methinks :)

Hmm im still on XP, one reason i havent changed to vista, i dont like change lol, but i guess at some point im gonna have to..i might get vista at some point, but is this windows 7 gonna be the one to get.

I'll be making the jump. Using the Beta at present and loving it personally, can't really fault it. Now I just hope Microsoft stick to their principals and don't go filling it up with unnecessary code, slowing the whole thing down.

At present I get the feeling that it is AS FAST if not FASTER than Windows XP and for that reason, I'll be going Windows 7.

I'll definately be getting it as it will no doubt be offered at a reduced cost for me as student or free thorugh the MSDN Academic Alliance.

I'll be doing it. My desktop runs Vista x64 and will naturally be upgraded to 7. On my laptop I tried Vista, but the naff hard drive and graphics adapter made it quite sluggish so I went back to XP. I hate using XP after having used Vista but I'm putting up with it for the performance and battery life. The beta of 7 runs vastly better than Vista on the laptop - probably as quick as XP - so looks like it'll be just what I'm looking for.

For me XP is and was a good operating system and that is what it will always will be in my memory(of my brain :D ). That said, I love Vista and have always been a pro-Vista user and I like the way MS was going with it, you just need a good system to run it and then it will fly.

Windows 7, is really really good. I've been using various builds and am now on the 7000 x64. Microsoft really has put in a lot of details on a lot of features and finetuned so much. Just try it and you'll see. If you don't like it, use XP or Vista but with 7 I don't really think you can go wrong. It's fast, it has all the little details and can only get even better. Search around for a comparison between XP, Vista and 7, you'll be suprised who wins ;)
