Wing suit

It's a requirement (I think either by the BPA or the CAA) to have your jump counter signed and logged anyway - however it would be cool to do it online, doubt you'd have much time though ;) I have a lot of my jumps on VHS which are all rather nostalgic! :D

However that would be pretty awesome bragging rights posting whilst falling at over 120mph :D

25 mph = 11m/s which is the same as jumping off a wall about 6 meters high so not quite landable without a chute !

The idea of being able to land in one of these would be fab.

Joshua is BASE jumping alone when friends reported him overdue to return. They found his car at Crown Point and called in search & rescue teams. Searchers found his body about 450 feet from the top. He appears to have died after hitting the wall under canopy. In 2006 I received this report from Josh's wife: "How dare Slim Simpson (NOW DEAD), Nik Harshorne (NOW DEAD), [and] Jason Zaslaw say that they reported Josh being overdue... I, Marie McVay was the one reported him over due! I had a 7 month old daughter at the time of his death... I was on the phone with him when he died. His phone was on in his fanny pack that was on his waist. I heard him scream, HELP ME! and heard him go through the tree branches, which strucked from his right side of his body throughtout his left side of his neck. Please change your comment how he died!!! It was not true!!! This upset me greatly. I hate your additive sport, which caused Josh to die! If it wasn't for this sport he would still be alive!!!"

Right and so a handful of people die a year from this, yet thousands die driving without a seatbelt, drinking themselves into oblivion, taking drugs up to their eyeballs etc... get a sense of perspective man.

People make their choices, skydivers are all adults - no one forced them to up the ante, and whilst I agree if the person has a family, kids etc... and pursues the risk then on his head be it, however the majority (and I do mean the majority) of skydivers who have families have all bought into the fraternity and know the risks etc... BASE I agree is a bit different, but then only a small amount of people do it a very small amount. It's no more selfish than you taking my last rolo.
 
Surely that lady gave him her blessing to do his jumps. One has to assume he was doing this WHEN she met him so has accepted him 100% for his good,bad point and love of extreme sports.

Firstly don't roll your eyes at me. Secondly I did read your post and whilst I sympathise we don't know the facts, she may well have been happy with his decision to do it, and probably even knew, and no doubt was fully aware of his skydiving/base jumping. They don't purposely go out to pop their clogs - when I used to jump I didn't think **** yeah I'm gonna die :cool: :rolleyes:

It's his decision and yes maybe it's a bit daft to go out and jump if you have a family, but then people take worse risks every day just driving to work or crossing the road. Trying to expand and blow up such a minor incident in the WHOLE sport is pathetic frankly. So I suggest you stop trolling.

You know what? Why don't you box yourself up in polystyrene, and go back to living your boring reclusive troll-like life for fear you may get a bruise, okay? Leave the normal people here have a regular life and have a bit of fun.

There are far more selfish people out there, seeking a bit of a thrill isn't one of them.

i) Consider the numbers.
ii) Do you really want to put wingsuit flying on a par with the other things you mention above?

Doing dangerous things because you want to could leave you dead or crippled and thus force people who care about you to deal with that. That's more selfish than taking your last rolo.

I think it's something for people to deal with on an individual basis. Personally, I wouldn't want someone close to me to go BASE jumping (with or without a wingsuit), but I'd keep my eyes and my mouth closed if it meant that much to them (which I think it would pretty much have to if they were doing it at all - it's not something people do casually when there's nothing much on TV).
 
I havent done anything like bungee jumping or jumping from a plane, but i've always wanted to. And seeing that just makes me want to do it more, love adreneline.

You wouldn't get much time, would you? If you use txtspk garble, you lose bragging rights :)

You could get more time with a wingsuit, but typing would be a problem. Maybe you could rig something up to allow you to type with just finger movements, with your hands outstretched like wings. That could spawn lots of one line posts:

Poster1: Where are you?
Freefaller: I just jumped out of a plane and I'm flying over Dartmoor. I'm streaming video to <some URL>
Poster1: Wow!
Poster2: Wow!
Poster3: Wow!

Etc: :)

I've no wish to bungee jump or parachute, but the wingsuit stirs me. It's almost like proper flying, and who hasn't thought about that?
 
No way can that be real! The section where he is flying so close to the rocks... insane - if its real!

Ok the numbers are small in terms of BASE jumping and skydiving worldwide, however statistically there are less deaths in skydiving and base jumping combined, than most other inane activities out there. Actually I remmeber reading in the BPA magazine that on average more people injure themselves and unfortunately die on their way to or from the dropzone than actually doing the jumps and being there. It really is a highly regulated sport (apart from BASE) and as such the casualties are low. There were less than 60 deaths WORLD WIDE last year. And there are well over 100s of thousands of people that skydive that's not even 0.00x% of deaths. If you scale it up to 1bn skydivers (1/7th of the world's population or so) and the same ratio and the same levels of safety, that's still only 1.5% resulting in deaths. Now this is deaths alone, not accidents or injuries or malfunctions, near misses... however that's pretty good odds if you ask me.[/quote]

No, my last rolo would be a huge sacrifice!!! :( There are many more jobs that on a daily basis leave people with the potential of being killed or crippled. Pilots, army/airforce/navy, police, car/coach driver, fishermen, oil refineries, power stations, steel mills, quaries, firemen etc... the list is endless. This is a hobby that people do on the weekend once or twice. The chances are small, agreed the outcomes are potentially more severe, however the chances are still small.

I think it's something for people to deal with on an individual basis. People who tend to hang out with skydivers are fellow skydivers who understand the implications. I go out on my bike and my parents are more worried about me having a bike crash than doing 10 jumps in a day! They obviously didn't see the way I packed my chute!!! :D It's just a sense of perspective and a balance of understanding vs paranoia and ignorance. :)
