Winter 2010/2011

Yeah, to some extent. Looks like we're not going to see much about 3 degrees over the next week.

The cold here is different though, it is much dyer and crisp. -15 here doesn't feel that bad.

I suppose so. I'm in MT, USA; wind chill of about -18c at the moment with snow; it feels awful.

snow? yes please.

The rail network will come to a grinding halt. The road network will come to a grinding halt. People will refuse to go to work. Councils will fail to anticipate the snow and fail at providing suitable grit. This will be due to a few inches of snow for a week, maybe two.

Meanwhile in our Swedish neighbours will carry on as normal despite being under a foot of snow.

Not as if they're used to a foot of snow is it?

A fleet of new vehicles is standing by to treat motorways and major roads in the South East in case the bad weather of previous winters is repeated.

The Highways Agency said it had learnt from the last two winters and strengthened its capacity to face extended spells of severe weather.

More than 100 new vehicles will be used across Kent, Surrey, Sussex, Hampshire, Oxfordshire and parts of Berkshire.

The vehicles can clear snow and spread dry, treated and pre-wetted salt.

I love cold weather and snow, but feel sorry for all the people who are going to die over the winter through being too scared to heat their houses.

Would love a repeat of the last two winters, in fact I want it to be worse I want a foot of snow!!!! :D

Plus it will give me a great chance to use my new camera!

We're doomed. DOOMED!

I want snow though so I don' have to go to work. I'm not being one of those people risking my neck on icy roads.

"risking your neck" just drive carefully and you won't be in any danger, shame most use it for an excuse to stay off.

I could do that but seeing as my boss will do the same then it'd be a waste go to the office. Could do some work from home instead.

Then your boss is as bad as you, if you work from home then fine but tbh you could do that on a hot summers day aswell.

Majority of people just get on with the weather and it reallt annoys me those who suddenly become retarded in the face of snow/ice (not directed at you just public in general)

but then that said the majority of the public turn to retards when the dark nights come.

It's a small company. Literally 4 of us. Of course, if it's only a little ice and snow we'll go to the office.

The reason why everyone cant cope with snow is that contrary to everyones new opinion given a whole 2 years of freak wether, the British mainland rarely sees snow outside of the high grounds or Scotland. Therefore when it does happen we dont have the infrastructure to cope and people dont have the experience or confidence to drive properly in it. It's only natural really, I doubt the Norwiegens would cope well in a prolonged heatwave either for much the same reason.

Still, we've all spend millions of pounds on numerous snowploughs etc etc etc that we can leave parked up for another 10 years until the next freak winter.

Even the long range forecast is showing only minor snow really and makes more of a thing about how dry December is expected to be in areas..

Minor snow? We had that last year where I was. It was the couple of weeks of ice that stopped a lot of people. Now I'm in surry this winter I'm hoping it gets a repeat of what it did last year! :D

im definitely not a winter guy, last year, me and my mom went for a holiday to Paris. on the back to London, we boarding the Eurostar. we are among the hundreds of people that got stranded in the English Channel Tunnel. Investigation found that the winter cold snap off the electricity of the train and when DEAD in the middle of the tunnel.

thats is my horrified experience in my whole life.but, yeaaa, lesson learned. next time, i will get a flight. so, Winter 2010/11????? cold= exceptable, snow= Hell no!

Ohh, forgot, and flights are also got cancelled and nothing is flying on that time. so, the best way? stay at home, hibernating :P

Winter is chaos in my ends, last year we had a mini pile up involving 5 cars. 2 cars slid and hit 3 parked cars just outside my house :0 . But anyways, was it last year when our govt had to ask Russia for advice on how to tackle snow in future?

Planning to head off on hols for about a month towards the end of Jan or so (to somewhere HOT).

You can keep your thick grey, low cloud cover and your rainy, dark, cold, hostile, miserable winter. :)
