Winter 2020/2021

First snow at village level overnight and has been bloody cold all day. As with every year, I'm now rushing to get an appointment to change my tyres.

Beautiful morning today. Nice and cold, crisp still air and light to no winds :)

That's what winter should be. Sick of the latest trend of wet, warm and windy.

Assuming that is in Hokkaido. It always amazes me despite me knowing and understanding the reasons how much colder everywhere else is than the UK. Hokkaido is quite a away south of Southern England yet I bet you get real winters. It's like 95% of mainland US is below the 49th Parallel yet lots of areas are much colder than the UK where the Southern most point is the 50th Parallel. No doubt we'll get another Jet Stream driven wet warm and windy non-winter. :(

Nice bright sunny clear day like its been the last few days. Lovely. Just like the summer except for the switch in temperature.

i want it to snow like it used to when i was a kid .....3 to 5 foot deep

I would just like snow. Any snow, any at all havn't seen a flake for years.

Had a week of snow 2 weeks ago.
Already sick of it.

Damn. I want your life.

Oh they do where my cousin lives it gets to be several feet deep and lasts 6 months or more

We had snow for one day at the start of the year? I had to put my coat and boots on. Mind you, the two/three inches we had were gone by 11... :p

I remember my first winter here 9 years ago was bitterly cold. End of November it snowed and then that was it, village temp was around -5 or lower through until the end of March.

Trends are worrying though with every year seemingly getting milder. Not uncommon now for village temps to hover around 0 in the day, which is horrible for the roads and bad news for the ski resorts with how relatively low to sea level we are.

Barely freezing and your car doors wont open?

Been getting down to -1C or so here (South Somerset) last 2 nights and very heavy frost - like you'd expect to see more with -5C to -7C kind of temperatures. Though I've not had any problems with my car doors.

In Helsinki last year we had barely any snow, it was more like a drizzly Welsh winter here. We had to go half way up the country for some decent snow. I'm hoping this year will be better!

Had to defrost the windscreen before going to the shop this morning. I don't recall if there was ever a morning that cold that I had to do that last year. Even at it's coldest, we only had very light frosts.

Last two days my car doors have been frozen shut and I've had to spend 10 minutes de-icing

Buy some of this and apply it to all of your door seals. Keeps them supple and helps prevent them sticking in the cold:
