I think a lot of people are confusing wind speed with gust speed. It's the gusts that are the issue, so even if it's not getting above 40mph main wind speed, doesn't mean you can't get some really nasty gusts that'll do damage.

Have barricaded my compost bin against the shed with a scaffold pole, and nervously watching how much my trees are swaying. I'm sure my 60ft oak is going nowhere, but it's not thaat far from the kitchen.

Very pleased I cut down 7 bushy 40ft lelyandii along our border fence a few weeks ago, one of those was swaying in a stiff breeze which triggered that, would hate to be watching them in these winds.

Here the storm less gusty but sustained wind speed is higher.

Dudley caused oak To tap the house. This storm hasn't done that. Pretty much the reason this one seems less intense.

Less gusts more base speed.

Is your place completely unshielded?
As in the house that bears the brunt of the winds?

pretty much now the wind has changed to a Westerly, while it was coming from the SW the neighbours house protected me,

Damn the noise the roof tiles are making it sound like the whole lot's going to fly off :(

I was just thinking that it hasn't been as bad as predicted. Had to rescue my recycling bin earlier, but that was to be expected. But I've just seen in the local neighbourhood group that a tree has come down on one of the residential streets not far from us - big enough to block the road.
I'm now eyeing the tree on the green opposite our house with suspicion. Hopefully even if it does go it's not going to cause any damage, but we're getting some heavy gusting here too.

I think it's over here. Last half hour it's declined.

Right here I'd have given this a yellow warning. Same as dudley.

I am surprised as we are on the edge. Of the estate on gwent levels so expected it to be worse.

Seems like a few of you got it bad.

This is strangely mesmerising!
It's a hard watch, but willing them down safely onto the tarmac is becoming addictive. I'll be honest and say I've never flown and never intend to, despite my familiarity with the physics of flight and over-engineering, so I'm not a good judge of what's safe and what's not, but... those pilots are heroes on a day like this. I think if I had to fly in an emergency after watching this I might choose BA; it's a good advert for their pilot training.
