Winter 2022/23 - It's too cold :(

Yeah, we've down below 15 a few times indoors in the mornings. Have got the heating on, with the rads turned down just to keep it at around 17 during the day. The way my house is that means it's about 19/20 upstairs (open plan stairs), which is a bit hot for sleeping so it goes off at around 7/8pm.

My house is easier to manage when it's colder. This is just cold enough (around 5-8 over the last few days) to need some heating but not a lot.

I've draped dark blankets on my rads to collect heat ,works a treat when the sun's out, spring tide, walk to rock on the beach stunning for a change

From the 3rd December for a week. Low confidence though.

Jet looking more and more like it will be displaced for a few days - usually you get all the other signs of an arctic intrusion but the jet sitting solidly over the UK and it just doesn't come off. With the overall conditions in the northern hemisphere likely to just be bitterly cold rather than frosty or snowy. (EDIT: People who actually know something about the weather are talking frosts - but it doesn't look like the kind of setup to me which would bring much in the way of significant frosts).

If the latest model updates inched a little closer to the -10 850s we'd be looking at a prolonged cold spell from the 3rd onwards - something we don't need right now with the potential strain on the power grid.

EDIT: Almost all the models show the jet well displaced around the 8th/9th and while not cleanly so mostly pushed away from the UK for a prolonged period and colder air moving in above - I think there is a fair chance of it coming off - albeit not really the conditions for snow but likely to be cold interspersed with bitterly cold.

BBC/Met going for 2-6C for the next 14 days here but if the current patterns evolve as it looks I'd be surprised if that isn't more like another 2C colder.
