Winter 2022/23 - It's too cold :(

On Tuesday, showers and rain are expected in the south, southeast and north of the UK. Moreover, Snow and heavy showers are then possible across high ground. Moderate winds are expected in most areas, locally strong in the north and perhaps south of the UK. For the rest of the period, high-pressure systems should dominate across the northwest and low-pressure systems are likely to persist in the southwest of the UK. As a result, occasional showers and moderate winds are expected throughout the rest of the period, especially around northern coasts, with more persistent rainfall likely in southern regions. Snow and snow showers are expected at times across high-ground areas. Temperatures are likely to be below normal through the period, possibly feeling rather cold.
 
From Wed it's going to be 5C max in London for at least a week. I'm personally really pleased, at last we get something that feels like a proper Winter rather than all this mild ******** that we've been having for the last few years.

I suspect people who can't afford to turn their heating on won't be quite so pleased about it.
 
I'll be interested to see how cold it gets and what if any snow we get but yeah it could've come along a few years ago when energy prices weren't sky high!

Could be some serious higher mortality rates if people can't afford to keep warm. Layers of warm clothing will be the key methinks!
 
Models this morning still showing significant drop in temperatures from next week with plenty potential for snow in places
 
First real frost but my bannana plants seem to be still kicking leaves out, did a good stem wrapping job.

Great model runs so far this week, some model alignment with small upgrades. Has some similarities to 2010!

i know it's really far out, but models are toying with the idea of a re-load too!
 
There is reasonable confidence that temperatures will remain below average, and it looks like turning even colder from Wednesday. Showers will fall increasingly as snow in the north, even to lower levels at times with notable accumulations over the Scottish mountains. There is a low risk in the far southwest, of a more prolonged spell of rain, which would turn to snow over the moors, but this is far from certain. The best of the clear or sunny spells looks most likely in the west, though this could lead to some hard night frosts. Towards mid-month, the signal for below average temperatures weakens with hints of milder, wetter conditions pushing in from the southwest - though any such features could be preceded by a period of hill snow.
 
Looking forward to it, not seen proper low temps here in close to 10 years.

Used to go down to -10C in Jan/Feb in mid Wales close to the coast

I think it's been quite decent today, if not barely warmer than the last few days. I hope it doesn't snow next week - I'm sure myself and plenty of others don't want the heating any more than we need right now. :D

I found my limit for wearing just a T-shirt and shorts for doing my shopping run, 40f (4.4c)!

Had to put my merino wool cycle jacket on, plus a woolly hat.

Still only shorts, though. :p
