There’s nothing quite as invigorating as a bit of cold weather camping. The sense of achievement when camp is set up and a fire lit etc is awesome. Really wish we got proper ‘snow’ winters over here in NI as I’d love to try a bit of camping in it.
I watch a lot of youtube videos of lunatics camping out in minus lol temps, looks brilliant.

anyone here live near the seaside and done the xmas day swim? (I know Brighton locals organise one , and i think ramsgate & margate as well (probably all over it is done)).

i like a bit of cold but i dont have the stones for that personally..... a 5 min dip in the plunge pool (followed by jumping in the main pool) is enough for me at center parcs. ;)

Our heating at work isn't coping with the low temperature. We have a CHP, but if there's no electrical load, it can't work. So over the weekend it basically did nothing to mitigate the low temperatures. And we now find out that the gas boiler is in fault, so we have very limited heating. The office is 16-17C. For various reasons, including it being cold, I'm going to go home at lunch time and (maybe) be slightly less cold.

Oh this is horrible! :o

Oodie on, hot water bottle... Yes I'm a wimp. Actually, if I'm moving and active I don't mind it. But office work is not enjoyable when it's cold.

Yeah I don't like the heat that central heating gives. Feels nasty at 23. But natural 27 I'm fine with indoors.

Probably related to humidity/stale air etc

Too much of a wimp for that. I'd need a wetsuit! :D

When my old office used to have any heating issues 10 or so years ago I'd throw a similar strop and go home.

Now in my home office which is heated by expensive underfloor electric heating - which is used v sparingly, I just pile on the jumpers

I wish I had underfloor heating. I have a pair of old man slippers now because the floor is cold but the air (from heating) is warm.

If I was in a long term house.. I think I'd get it

Still no heating but I have just had my first bowl of porridge for what must be fifty years.

Glowing inside.

I have jumbo oats porridge ((hob cooked, never micro'd) along with peanut butter, chopped Brazil nuts, dessicated coconut, spoon of jam, frozen fruit of the day, Greek yoghurt and a topping of ground cinnamon) every morning, can't beat it.

i had porridge for breakfast on saturday..... it is a cracking breakfast on a cold morning.

our work sent out an email today appologising that their energy saving has backfired. usually the heating is turned on in october (it was turned off in April or may i cant remember) however because they wanted to save a bit more energy they delayed it by a month and pushed it to november.................... and this morning apparently it is freezing cold so now they are digging out electric heater for people to borrow, which have not been used in ages, likely to be less safe and will probably be a more expensive way of heating the building.

what a cluster mess!!! its not like this cold snap wasnt reported in advance, we knew it was coming!. mind you i suspect the office will be warmer than my home office. :)

we have under floor heating in our conservatory/come dining room. It is electric however so with that in mind usually only gets used a handful of times a year (xmas day, birthday parties and such like)

for the 3 or 4 coldest months of the year unless it is a special occaision we just do not use the room and we eat meals on our knees in the lounge or at the breakfast bar in the kitchen..... that said it was fine last night even without the UFH on.

That's ridiculous. Setting heating to come on in November with no contingency!

I get in offices they often can't just turn it off and on.. But pushing it to November? That's a risky gamble

I admire your fortitude.

I was never a breakfast person, usually going to a site canteen at about ten having worked for two or three hours. Mind you I then had a proper English breakfast which saw me through most of the day.

Now a bowl of muesli or other cereal does until lunchtime.

Oh yeh, I've only done this since retirement, when I was working, extra minutes in bed trumped doing breakfast!

Even though I'm at home all day now, I still try and not turn on heating until around five/six in the evening, just like when I was at work.

I find having porridge gets me through til then, plus I'm more active during the day.

wood burners on 5c this morning at 10c now .. 22c in the house :)

bacon eggs mushroom and fried onion .. with a dbl shot expresso :) mmmm

Not looking forward to this again........... was very cold overnight, this morning the heating came on at 6. A typical days usage for hot water is between 8 and 14 kWh depending on how much water we consume.

Up until ~12 I'd already used 52.56kWh :(.

Octopus tracker is up to 6.5p too, and I am not holding my breath it doesn't go higher...

When they did the smart meter thing they couldn't do one for gas so I have to rely on tado.

We have an electric shower so I only heat the tank up a couple of times a week
