Winter 2023/24 - It's FREEZING!

I have friends from Bournemouth to Brighton, they've all said the same. So if it's effected you, sorry but your in a minority, hence the over sold.
It wasn't oversold, the strength and disruption of the storm was as expected, but it came in further south then originally expected and hit the channel Islands and north France the most. It made sense to take precautions because if the system had come in just a little bit further north there would have been widespread damage in the south.

It was very windy and generally wet and stormy all last night and through to this morning. Much like they said it would be. Not sure why people think that their experience means others didn't have a different one...

Because they said it was gona affect a massive amount of people, and cover an area of about 300 miles of the south coast.

Lots of things happen to a small amount of people every day but we don't make a massive song and dance about it affecting everyone.

I appreciate that weather reporting isn't an exact science and that it's better to warn people just in case, but they claimed Hurricane winds and the tree I see out of the window isn't moving. Moaning that there aren't better systems in place to not shut school when you look out the window and see its not windy is perfectly justified. They made this a 10 and it's a 1, that's a vast scale of uncertainty tbh if that's they're ability to predict.

We're not belittling those who had worse but just talking about how wrong this ended up, is that OK?

They claimed up to. 80-90mph gusts along the south coast and English channel.

I think in the English channel it was worse than that and south coast much better.

But even 50 miles south of projection can make a huge difference. If it had been further north it would have been totally different. Can't really blame them for it.

Look at that video from the channel islands.

This was the weather report from yesterday morning.

Looks accurate to me.

Wouldn't have taken much and it would have shifted 25 miles north or south and there is a lot of energy in this one, the precautions entirely warranted.

It has actually been surprisingly disruptive around where I live and work (south Somerset) despite missing most of it and at least as far as I'm aware moderate winds at worst, quite a bit of flooding some of it bad and the odd tree/debris blocking roads.

I literally live as far on the south coast as you can get. I can see the sea. It's barely a gust atm. Honestly it wouldn't even knock over an umbrella.
I have some fragile fence panels and was expecting at to lose at least 4. They're fine.
Would you prefer they didn't tell anyone and people were killed by falling trees etc?

Maybe if people stopped getting weather info from inaccurate places.

That report clearly indicates the channel. Islands getting a pummelling and that's what happened.

There's not even much wind at all on south coast on those maps. But would be irresponsible to say that's the definite track.as it could easily change.

Weather forecasting is excellent now for 2-3 days.

Got mine from the met office

It was a scene of apocalyptic devastation here on the south coast this morning, I'm hoping that there will be some sort of compensation and therapy provided for the stress this has caused.

I'm sorry to see your home got blown into the road, hopefully it isn't damaged too much. I expect the council will sort out some emergency housing for you.

agree the storm seems to have been very erratic which shows up inaccuracy in forecasts -
weather not as bad as forecast suggested in Cambs - finally wasn't raining in the 8am-9 slot

cornwall looking much better than expected too

No I would prefer that they were more transparent on they're guessing, so that plans can be better prepared. Wouldn't you he equally as annoyed if they said it was gona be a lovely day and then you get a hurricane? How's it different?

Come on folks, better to err on the side of caution than be reckless. The country isn't completely populated by heroic alphas like yourselves!

As someone fascinated by weather this has been an interesting watch. That low pressure!

I'd be more annoyed if they said it was gonna be fine. I go out in my kayak and end up in France, dead on a beach! :D

Honestly. The YouTube from met office are best source.

Thankfully it is dying down now. No damage to property, or cars. Phew.

Actually I haven’t fully checked yet as it’s still chucking it down.
