Winter 2023/24 - It's FREEZING!

Its probably the first properly cold morning this winter in the SE, plenty of ice and frost.

Bright and crisp which is better than the rain, need some more days of this to firm the ground up a bit...still like a bog.

Yeah, I've not walked on my lawns for about three weeks. The grass had started to grow again, this may put a hold on that and may kill off a few annuals I planted last year which are still flowering.

Started snowing last night, supposed to snow again later today, its a bit nippy...real feel is -17

Well that ECM run is for the bin!
That nice warmer period seems to have ended.

Is there warmer weather now on the horizon?

Cold and dry this coming week, looking ahead the models have been honing in on a colder spell around Jan 14th onwards but it's still out of the reliable timeframe.

Did a 5 mile walk earlier on around the local lake in shorts and 3’c weather while everyone else has hats, gloves and puffer jackets etc on :p

Was actually a really nice day today too.

There was one guy in shorts. Absolutely mental. It was ice cold up there!

My lawn seems ok atm.

I did dig it all out, put some clay breaker in with plenty of organic stuff, some good topsoil then new turf. Seems to have improved it massively.

Thank **** its stopped raining for a few days at least

Seems very effective.

Looks like he went for the prison look and feel with that concrete block wall. :p
What I'm wondering is how he figured out the gate i.e. made it watertight. Either way he won't be taking the car out for a drive anytime soon

Definitely getting colder - our IHD started flashing last night (Saturday) to say we'd gone over our weekly budget :D it's usually late on a Sunday before it does that. Definitely getting colder though, I've had to bump our heating flow temperature up to 58ºC and the electric radiator in our garage conversion is definitely on more to keep the temp above 16.5ºC.

Shorts are the best in any weather, doesn’t get you too warm when moving, allows you to keep a constant temperature :p

I'll never go back to trousers again. Not after trying leggings. I didn't get hot at all today. But also at no point were my legs cold.

Trousers are horrid. Baggy, if they get wet they stick to your legs. Get caught in bramble. Like you say can often overheat in them.

Usually wear shorts down to about 10c. Then crosses into a layer.

Or if the wind has a nip to it.

I do need better gloves. Towards sunset I could feel the cold in my hands.

Going to be a chilly week and might even see a few flakes of snow fall in Southampton on Monday from ~1300.
