Winter car issues / moans

I'm surprised by my BMW and it heats up and starts delivering warm air after only a few minutes of driving. Would be nice if the heated seats warmed up a bit quicker though.

I usually throw a bucket of luke warm water over the screen, these few days it is so cold that the water melt the ice only to refreeze it again straight away. Never used too hot water incase something breaks.

exactly that - my neighbours are usually p*** around warming up the car to get hot air to defrost the screen and killing the wipers on the frost,
but judicious use of a bowl of tepid water on side/rear & finally windscreen, before you jump in run the wipers and immediately drive off is efficient

It's - 4.5c up here! Baltic!

I'll just leave this here.

first car was a hand me down cavalier mark2 which had a weber carburetor added with choke which I don't think was in original car.

neighbours diesel merc was warming up for ~10mins during which time I'd eaten bowl of breakfast cereal.

on a bike you can feel how non-compliant/rigid the tyres are at -7C with increased rolling resistance - would be interesting to feel all seasons.

I've probably said this before (have a terrible memory) but does anyone else's car take absolutely flaming ages to warm up / clear ice? I think the thing is the engine doesn't really warm up at all while the car is stationary so the blowers don't really put out much heat. Took 10 minutes to clear / demist the screen this morning (yes, that was with some elbow grease from me too). However, once I've started moving it's perfectly clear in a couple of minutes. Problem is I can't start driving without being able to see.

Feel free to boast about your heated windscreen / fancy EV pre-warming stuff. :p

Also, read the product on this ice scraper. LMAO. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01KU5ND4Y?psc=1&smid=A1H6ZSEKHX7VGJ&ref_=chk_typ_imgToDp
Jug of warm water works a lot quicker than any EV to clear your screen! Been doing it for years, no issues, and leaves you with a nice clean screen as well.

I used to do this, but 'tepid' rather than 'warm'.. just in case..

But, that's just a quick hit, the EV will not only defrost the windscreen easily, the cabin will be toasty in no time as well...

We have 2 EVs at the moment, our Model Y sounds awful with it's heatpump going full chat, but it got the interior temp from -7 to +21 in less than 5 minutes with all windows defrosted...
The ID.3 takes a bit longer (PTC only) but well under 10 minutes..

And you don't have to even venture outside at all until you want to drive..

First world problems eh?

Heated seats go on immediately. Front and rear heated windscreen if i need to use them :p My Lexus is a Hybrid too. So does not take too long to warm up.

Climate control set at 25 degrees. Only down side MPG has dropped from 65 to 60. Expected though.
Plus having a garage helps :D

hybrid (need to quiz neighbour) - how does a hybrid like 330e handle warming up the petrol motor - especially on cold days, do you somehow do it proactively
to avoid situation where you might need power pulling onto an NSL road, and motor is suddenly asked to aid the electric for acceleration, all, from cold.

I've only ever had 2 Diesels, and both took the longest to warm up.
I usually just accept it's going to be chuffing cold, chuck warm water over the front screen and immediately set off, aiming to get going and driving to aid warm up as fast as possible. My Mrs prefers to take about 20 minutes faffing about going in and out and ruining the wipers.
