Winter is coming...

Why would I be trolling, is it because I refuse to moan about the energy costs going up and have stated I'll just be carrying on as normal?
Frankly yes. Even if you can afford it you ought to be concerned, if not for yourself then for the millions who are going to struggle through the winter.

I am concerned but whinging about it on a forum is not going to achieve anything is it or are you one of these who thinks if you moan about things then you've done enough?

I will be helping people a lot less fortunate than myself as I do all year round but as you don't know me you hide behind your keyboard making quite frankly ridiculous assumptions and then accuse me of being a troll, well crack on as I really couldn't care as I've better things to be doing tbh

2 yrs ago i put in 2 wood burners when we moved into this house .. i have enough wood to keep me thru winter till march next yr .. why did everyone believe the hype of global warming .. yes this thread isn't about that i know ..
this winter will be bad .. very bad .. the la nina is still strong meaning a cold winter .. and will only get worst over the next 10 yrs cooling phase is what we are heading into .. shorter growing seasons for much of canada and the us ..
buy wood buy coal it's cheaper than gas .. my 2p worth ..

the "hype" of global warming?
regardless of whether you think we need to temporarily ignore carbon neutral goals (I don't but can sympathise with those who do) it takes a special kind of revisionism imo to still think it is fake.
do you perchance think the world is flat, and the covid vaccine has nanites in as well? because imo it is that level of thinking to still think human caused global warming leading to climate change is not a thing.

btw it seems you are thinking us having a brutal winter is proof against global warming, and all I can say to that is do some research from reputable sites (not random YouTubers or Reddit or stuff sponsored by fossil fuel companies) because climate change does not work like that.

def not flat but neither is it round .. no nanites had 2 shots ... and really before you spurt your woke self at me .. this is not the thread for it .. my gas bill is around 40 a month i take long showers .. gimmi a shout next yr and tell me how warm winters been .. :)

Its widely known that this is not the best way to heat a house if saving money if your goal.
to be fair setting a thermostat to 18 IS more responsible than most. hell last year ours was set to 20 when we were in the house and awake. I know some who set theirs to 22 or 23 which for me is horrible. possibly due to how I. lived as a kid I cope with cold far more than hot, much easier to put a jumper on than sit naked.... but I don't think 18 is bad tbh

Mine is normally set to 17 but I often find it back to 18 or 19. Those 1 or 2 degrees make a big difference on usage

lol honestly I think this is the 1st time in my like I have been accused of being woke . I really am not. I am genuinely scared for the next generation of people however, or maybe the one after. I believe they are more than likely buggered. even that is partly fueled by selfishness. untill I had a child (quite late in life) I probably would have paid a lot less thought into it so I don't claim to wear a halo.. other than this 1 topic my views are not what anyone would consider woke

I grew up in the 1970's with no heating in the house except a gas fire in the living room and an electric immersion heater for a bath once a week. I guess it's time to get used to that again. Strangely I don't remember being cold back then but maybe it was because I was a young kid.

similar to me. thick heavy blankets and water vapours from your mouth in a winter morning inside. my dad used to build and light the fire in a morning and my job was to scrape ice off the inside of the windows.
that said my childhood whilst we were.skint was fantastic, I would not swap it for anything and it did me no harm.... but I don't want to go back to it ;)

Yeh its not the temp that's the issue. It's leaving it on all day thinking that's more economical. It's not.

Wow, not sure that was called for. I wasn't sure if your blasé attitude was real or not, but if you're helping people less fortunate then good for you. :)

just like to say this... heat at the poles will cause a ice age .. to much fresh water causes the Thermohaline circulation to stop .. .. the winter weather this yr will be caused by a prolonged la nina ,, oh i've done my own research not going back 100yrs but 2-3-4-5k all cycles .. and the outlook is bad ..

indeed. all this has happened before and it will happen again (Christ i sound like Battlestar Galactica 2003). the difference this time is the speed that it is happening. what should be occuring over 1000s of years is happening in barely over 100 years.
the planet will be fine, life will go on. Some animals will be in their elements but for humans it will be tough.

on the bright side I suppose before we get that far .... my inland house half way up a hill may become a seaside home so there is that ;)

Will order those for the whole family. On a serious note, i am already in touch with the florida power and light company here , discussing possible ways to save up a little.
Obviously i am not the only one bothering them with the same question so workers there are really prepared to have long conversations with the concerned clients.
Let's hope the winter wouldn't be too cold.

I can highly recommend decathlon base thermal layer.

Really thin but so much extra warmth! Wore them in Norway for kayaking. Amazing for the price. And so comfy. No bulk at all.
