Winter is coming...

I grew up in the 1970's with no heating in the house except a gas fire in the living room and an electric immersion heater for a bath once a week. I guess it's time to get used to that again. Strangely I don't remember being cold back then but maybe it was because I was a young kid.
But with modern houses all sealed up, no heating on is asking for damp and mold. Need to at the least keep it above the dew point or get some ventilation.

Yeah just fitted some attic vents in the soffits very easy drill and pop in but the house smells so much better, the builder next door mentioned I was lacking them ,I've lifted the attic hatch an inch to get a flow going

Been looking at similar but may have a punt on these for 6 quid. Couple for the misses too.

They are super comfy.
I wore the leggings and a pair of small sports shorts travelling back on planes from Norway. I now only will travel in leggings or shorts! So much more comfy than jeans etc

I certainly got some looks.. Looks of envy at how stylish and relaxed I looked! :D

Ha thats quite the image. :D

Okay ordered some for me and the misses. Working from home so can't put the heating on during the day really or it'll bankrupt us.

I can highly recommend decathlon base thermal layer.

Really thin but so much extra warmth! Wore them in Norway for kayaking. Amazing for the price. And so comfy. No bulk at all.

Just tried mine for the first time after reading this. Extremely comfortable and very warm, so gonna get my dad a couple. Thanks for the heads up. :)

If you have a modern house or a newish roof you don't require vents, the membrane will be breathable.
Positive Input Ventilation is a good option but that can make the house feel cooler.
I chose to use a dehumidifier at times, open windows at others. New extractor fan on the bathroom as well

My neighbour built my house and he pointed it out ,it was a furnace up there ,he said I was in danger of warping the roof joists ,he put them in his but not mine

Heating on for the first time tonight, it just feels too cold, and I’m not sitting indoors dressed up like Scott of the Antarctic just to save a few quid

I give my heating a maintenance run every month but used it for a couple of hours a few days ago also have an automatic humidifier going now (when windows and loft hatch are shut) it only seems to draw around 100 watts and works great in my small house ,pretty cheap and can post an id pic if anyone was interested in getting one ,i also got a cheap humidity /temp display (fiver) that i leave in the living room and set the humidifier accordingly ...............

I'm holding out for now but i'd imagine over "proper" winter i'll end up working some days in bed with the missus under the electric blanket. RIP my back though

Although it was already down to 13.5 degrees in my office yesterday morning

I'm personally a big fan of thin layers and not bulky tops. When it's very cuttingly cold thermals or under layers are great, even for going to the gym. Keeps you nice and warm when it's cold. You do need to be more regimented on hygiene though.

Being active and not staying stationary is also worthwhile. Standing desk is worthwhile as you can move around a bit but even then I get cold feet.

Heated blankets are good to take that initial cold out of the bed. You can use a sheet with a thick duvet on top and wear socks and thicker nightwear too which helps.
