Winter Transfer Window 22/23

Chelsea will be in deep trouble when FFP hits if they don’t make it to the CL.
Until they release last seasons accounts it's difficult to say. Their combined loss for the previous two seasons amounts to £130m odd but there's a load of expenses that aren't included in the FFP calculations and you're also allowed to deduct losses linked to covid which mean they're probably not far off breaking even, from a FFP pov, across those two seasons.

The fact that they're giving these new signings such long contracts makes me believe that they're certainly conscious of breaching ffp. For those that may not know, from an accounting point of view, transfer fees are spread over the life time of a players contract so the longer the contract, the less per year it costs the club.

You make it sound like UEFA are a legitimate business. City got away with it and so will Chelsea.
City got away with it because there was a time limit for charges to be brought against them, which had passed. Numerous clubs, including City first time around, have been sanctioned by UEFA for breaching FFP - some clubs have simply been fined, some have had squad and spending limits placed on them (including City) and others have been banned.

A Ukrainian moving to a team inextricably linked to illegitimate Russian finance; that will go down like the proverbial.

He is a proper edge-of-your-seat player. Very good indeed, based on the CL games I watched (most of the group stage). But, Rob, give your head a shake. He'd be coming in to compete with Martinelli (and Saka to an extent). We can't splash 100m EUR on an initial squad player like it's nothing. And certainly not given the funds invested over the past two years.

Time now for the club to refocus elsewhere. Kudus at Ajax is someone I'd look at closely.

Chelsea'a transfer strategy is non-existent. Playing FM on sugar daddy mode.

I just hope we actually add some depth. I can seriously see us signing no one, except maybe a deadline day panic transfer.

I don't see the latter happening.

After years of mismanagement under previous stewards, one of the main aspects I'd credit the club with is a clinical transfer strategy across the past two years. We are solely signing players a) that fit Arteta's tactical ethos and b) that match a certain age and personal profile. If we make a signing, it will be someone we've done due diligence on. Or, at worst, possibly a low-risk loanee.

We will never make it to the end of the season with our current squad. An injury or two away from complete disaster.
