Wolfdale e8200, e8400 and e8500 available for Pre-Order!

This is good stuff for anyone buying into Core2 Duo for the first time, think the E8400 is a good price considering what the existing Core2 Duo chips are selling for and . . . . . what a whack on the prices for the E8500 lol :D

" New 45nm CPU First Look-Intel C2D E8500 4.7G On Air Cooler (Looks like the Thermaltake 90mm Cooler)

It’s not every day we get news stories for free, but it appears that one of our forum members that goes by the alias of windwithme has posted a review of Intel’s upcoming Core 2 Duo E8500 processor and he’s even managed to overclock it to an insane 4.7GHz with a standard air cooler.

The test setup consisted of 2GB of Corsair DDR3-1800 memory, a GeForce 8800GT graphics card and an Asus P5K3-Deluxe motherboard. There’s a bunch of pictures of all the kit as well as several screen shots of various benchmarks. At default clocks the E8500 managed to do a 32MB Super PI run in 15min 12.828 seconds, at 4.4GHz on a 491MHz this was reduced to 12min 17.86 seconds,

There are also some 3DMark benchmarks and CPUMark numbers.

Up to you m8, I dont see the old story with peeps arguing over E6850 v Q6600 here ;)

I never bought a Quad last time as that Q6600 GO was not around.

I Game so read lots of sites and the faster 1333FSB Dual was better for my use than the slower 1066FSB Quad and back then not many hit 3.6GHZ with non GO's.

I have always said to myself, I will buy a Quad when Native and even the new Quads due in weeks/months which aint Native are gonna cost a lot of cash.

really tempted to get a 8500, if i could get it to 4.3 that would be ideal, do you think it would be a lot quicker than my current cpu with my current mobo/ram?

or would you recommend new mobo, faster ddr2 or ddr3 perhaps?

but 4gb of ddr3 would be pricey! :(

You should upgrade your desk/workspace Will, may not be as easy as just popping a new CPU into your system but you will appreciate it 1000% more than some extra 3DMarks!

Its not just 3dmarks though, its lower electric consumption, runs slightly cooler, and I might be able to hit 4Ghz :p.

I can upgrade my desk aswell, Just need to wait for weeks EMA to come through :). This E6600 @ 3.4Ghz is slow:o

Gonna go see if I can max the FSB on this 6600 and hit 3.6 that might keep me happy.

I dont see it as a down/side grade, I would imagine most peeps if they were offered 1 of the CPU's for free would take the 8400.

I will buy the 8500 cause I got offered good cash for my CPU as it can do 4GHZ.

Um thats an interesting upgrade! HeX you are one crazy mofo enjoy! :)

Yeah, a bit mad I know :o

Basically, I don't use the Quad at all, its nice having 4 cores and all, but when 2 of them are alway pretty much idle it just seems a bit OTT.

As such i'm trading in cores for more jiggahurtz (hopefully!)

In the cyber world those are benefits but are they worth £140 ish to you?

4GHz would be really nice (maybe more) and having a new chip to play with is also fun in a geeky way but in the cold light of day there is still hard cash to be spent and with G0 Quads at a similar price the choice is made harder.

Can you manage to limp along with your E6600 at 3.4GHz, must be tough eh! :D

Hmm im about to place an order - quad 6600 or e8400?

Its so hard. why cant i have both?! But really though, is the extra cache worth it on the quad?
I always have loads of programs open, but nothing that really can use the quad core - unless i manually change the settings.

Q6600 or E8400?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Well if it makes it easier for you I went for a G0 Q6600 in the end, but I do run F@H so non of the cores will be idle at any one time.

When I'm bored with it I can always trade it in for an E8200 before the new quads come out in a few months time.

The extra Mhz on the new 45nm duos might give an edge in games but most new games are graphics limited anyway.

That used to be the case, but games since CoD2, BF2 etc all use CPU+GPU, games like F.E.A.R (GPU Dependant) are rarer now.

Thats why most sites say a faster Dual is better if your prim concern is gaming (for how long that remains who know, possibly Alan Wake is 1st game to use Quads, but so was Crysis supposed to).
