Woman held in Dubai with daughter after drinking wine on flight

Someone mentions a face veil, and within days the talk is of a criminal investigation for intentional potstirring.
This is the pressure that remains to us.

People need to stop travell8ng using these airlines, stop buying products and holidays, stop going any working for large salaries, giving away skills sets and expertise abroad where the money never gets repatriated. Then that would constitute pressure. Don’t like their laws, stop contributing to their wealth.

This women had been there seven times, by then you should know never to get shirty with local police and officials, she will learn her lesson, which is why they are doing this to her, to teach her a lesson as she doesn’t fulfil their cultural norms.

What a great culture that ensures Visas are on point and police forces are not attacked. Perhaps that's where we're going wrong :)

It's the UAE, a country of 9 million people that is already suffering sanctions by a coalition of countries in the middle east, led by Saudi Arabia, for its dealings with Iran. UAE need all the friends it can get at the moment. They wouldnt want another country giving them problems, especially if they have all this investment in our country, not to mention the amount of investment in their country that we have. It would hurt them more than us as we have less problem countries.

I agree with this part. People need to start respecting other countries they visit or stay home. British holiday vacations are getting hotter these days thanks to some climate change! What is wrong with getting a sun tan on Blackpool beach!? You can even ride the donkeys!

she didn't get arrested for an invalid visa and the filming happened after the alcohol issue was brought up (presumably because she didn't realise she'd committed a crime and thought she was being stitched up)

well that's good news, bit of media exposure does seem to help

it is interesting to see the various reactions in this thread, people accepting this sort of thing from the authorities or assuming she's done something more to somehow deserve it - some people were also clearly unaware (just as this woman was) that drinking alcohol was illegal.

Would be interesting to see the mobile phone footage, I suspect she wasn't kicking off like some angry chav but just (as reported) asking to buy a visa or trying to find out if there was some other way to resolve the situation. It is hardly unsurprising for officials there to be rude etc.. and she'd just got off a long flight with her 4 year old daughter.

Unless she was really screaming obscenities their reaction was way over the top. Locking up a mother and 4 year-old is just barbaric.

Still doesn't excuse the way she was treated.

This kind of this is why I'll never turn visit these countries. I turned down an all expenses paid conference visit in UAE due to stuff like this.
 
She got what she deserved. Probably another mouthy entitled cow mouthing off in a country that will actually do something about it. Never had a problem in Dubai, just stick to the law.

She was told in a telephone call today that she can leave at any time and will not face any charges. The Dubai Government have also said they will pay for the flights home.

She had an expired visa. She got shouty when questioned, whilst drunk at the airport and started to film it. They banged her up for being a stupid **** but let's not let facts get in the way.

You haven't presented any fact, you've just speculated that she was shouty and you've erroneously claimed she was drunk when the only fact we have is that she had one glass of wine on the place (she was travelling with a 4 year old so I doubt she got hammered) and that she readily admitted to that when asked by the official + underwent a blood test.

Also if the above posted by Bowdon is true that she actually could have bought a visa then it isn't surprising that she argued with the official/didn't just accept turning around and getting another long haul flight back to the UK with a 4 year old kid.
 
im on the mouthy womans side, people should be allowed to film any kind of personnel for exactly this purpose.
People tend to act a lot more professional when they know they are being recorded.
