Women and makeup

The things you’ve listed could be surmised with one word. Attractive.

I see where you're coming from, but "attractive" means to attract other people. There are plenty of people who wear makeup to give themselves more confidence, but not because they want to attract other people. It's about the intent. I'm sure Sturgeon is not wearing makeup because she's on the pull.

And why does that automatically infer searching for a mate is involved?

Indeed.

Point to where I said that wasn't the case?

Appearing attractive doesn't always equal just trying to find a mate.

It 100% equals attracting potential mates.

You can’t be more attractive and not also attract more potential mates. It’s literally what attraction is and how it is measured.

Sure, people who want to appear more attractive may not be interested in actually having sex with the people they attract. They definitely do however, want to attract them and have others witness that.

Makeup serves one purpose, to attract more potential mates and therefore increase your social stance.

Peer pressure just like a lot of other social situations, many people are too cowardly to stand out from the crowd and just follow the norms/trends. We live in a society where women are expected to wear make-up.

I'm sure there's an element of confidence and wanting to feel attractive but that's just a state of mind, a lot of ugly people have an incredible amount of confidence.

Buzzfeed [OK, it's Buzzfeed, I know] asked 14 women why they regularly wore makeup. The most-given reason was that it was just fun to wear.

It 100% equals attracting potential mates.

And what you would say to this person?

Okay, do not get me wrong: I truthfully admit that sometimes the only reason girls wear make up to impress guys and sometimes even other girls. However, most mornings, I can honestly say the only person I put on make up for is myself. When I have makeup on, I feel good. I don’t feel ugly without it, but it gives me that extra confident boost that you need once in a while.

I suppose she's just lying to herself.

Also, some women have noted that they get treated better with makeup on [not just by men, by everyone].

Ok fellas, what about this...?

On the whole, it is women who wear make up.

Make up, when applied well, can make a plain person look stunning. Of course, the counter - argument is that it takes time to apply and many women would feel uneasy going out without make up on, some feel they "have" to make the effort.

As men, again generally, we do not wear make up. Basically, apart from hair and shaving, we cannot do as much to improve our facial looks.

So, my question...

Would you prefer to be able to wear make up (and thus possibly improve your looks with additional effort) or do you prefer not having to, but then not being able to enhance your facial looks?

My only concern about make up is when it feels like an obligation, and the woman feels ugly without it. Then it becomes an issue.

I’d ask that person why they feel good and get a confidence boost when wearing makeup.

It’s really quite simple.

Makeup has one function; to increase how attractive the wearer appears. How that makes you feel, the reason you wear it etc changes nothing and it will all boil down to that fact. It has to.

Lol at the 'to attract mates' lot, so all women who are married or in relationships, who wear makeup, are looking for something else?

Hell, some women wear makeup so they look good in the eyes of their female friends.

Impossible, Arctine has already declared that the only reason women wear makeup is to attract potential partners. Anything else is erroneous.

I haven’t declared anything. I’ve explained.

Nothing I’ve said is incorrect. I can’t help if people misinterpret easy to follow information.

If someone can provide another purpose for makeup other than to improve how attractive one appears I’ll be happy to discuss it.

Unless a woman is trying to attract a man or a woman, what is the point? i'm sure she'd look fine with no makeup.
Same reason women do most things - To look/feel/be/appear better than other women.
Men and mating don't even come into the equation, except right at the end as a small 1 carried over to the divisor.

This is probably a silly thing to talk about, but was just watching Nicola Sturgeon on the BBC news and she's wearing lipstick and eye makeup and whatever else women put on. Unless a woman is trying to attract a man or a woman, what is the point? i'm sure she'd look fine with no makeup.

It's not about the man, it's about women feeling good about herself. It boosts women's self-esteem and self-confidence. I'm also sure there are women who would've felt the opposite if they had the makeup on.

To the OP are correct to wonder why she bothers, we even have a phase to capture the concept, ‘lipstick on a pig’ and frankly comparing a pig to Nicola is an insult to the pig.

On a side not I’m not a fan of much makeup on a woman, it’s just deception, just a little bit of eye makeup is fine. I feel sorry for the ladies to smear it on, so their eyelashes clump up and they have so much foundation on it gives them bad skin - you can’t really tell them but you really want to!
