Wordle ** WARNING: THERE ARE PROBABLY HINTS TO THE DAILY WORD IN HERE **

Without wishing to suck the fun out of Wordle, I’d be interested to see if a statistician/programmer has crunched the numbers. If you follow a logical system, I presume in the long term there must be a trend to about median of 4 guesses. 5 if you’re less disciplined.

Clearly there’s a one in 3000-odd chance of getting a 1 but that’s pure luck; a 2 has to be an inspired guess; and I think 3 must require a bit of luck if your 2 opening words don’t hit targets.

Ironically, my worst performances have been when I’ve had 3 or 4 greens eg the recent *IGHT - I had 4 guesses on the first letter, and nearly lost. (As someone pointed out, the correct strategy is to try and eliminate the other consonants using words without the known green letters, but I can’t resist trying my luck!).

This game is too easy, 19 games and 19 wins. They need to make it a little harder.
I don’t think it’s really too difficult to get the word (it’d have to be more than 5 letters to be harder), and that’s not really the point, it’s more about getting it in the minimum number of guess. If you’re getting them in 2s or 3s that’d be impressive (but as I’ve said above, you’d be very lucky to maintain that over the long term)!

I get it in 3 or 4 every time, only at the start was I getting a couple of 5 or 6's. It's only really the double letter words that tend to take more guesses.

Is there a 6 letter version anywhere?

In which case you need to aim for 2s and 3s. (As I’ve said above, I’m not convinced 2s are possible through raw skill/strategy and must be at least partly driven by luck. Not sure if there’s a strategy that would give consistent 3s. I think the lady from Countdown said she gets mainly 3s).

my first ever 2 today
got the first and third letter green on first word, the luck element

Was walking down stairs to make a coffee to think of words and one hit me, turned around and boom correct word

This is one of those games that really more luck than skill, but a complete lack of coherent strategy, or just being silly will cripple your chances

I like to do it quickly, aiming to be done within a couple of minutes max. My other half can take half the day thinking of what to use next.

I’ve only had one 2, and it was a definitely lucky guess. A friend of my wife has had a few 2s, and says she thinks very carefully about the second word. I suppose that in theory a good first word will either give you a good chance of a few hits, or by omission, what is likely to be in the word, then you work from there. I can’t help thinking it’s mainly luck though.
