work sick...

once in the last 5 years. and i temporarily lost my job over it because i was at a new company and they had took to many staff. the one whod been ill (me) went before the ones who had used their full amount of holidays , the ones who had injurys that had them on 'light duties' for weeks , the ones who did so little work that they might aswell be on sick all the time anyway , etc .

Is not taking any days off sick really something to be proud of did anyone get extra pay or a bonus for it?

longest time without sicky? 4 years 10 months, boasted about it and two days later had 4 weeks off with exhaustion

my company uses the 'Bradford Factor' this is now used by the NHS among other companys

The Bradford Factor is calculated as follows:

B = S squared x D

where:
B is the Bradford Factor score
S is the total number of spells (instances) of absence of an individual over a set period
D is the total number of days of absence of that individual over the same set period[2]

The 'set period' is typically set as a rolling 52 week period.

so S is the absence of AN individual? what does that mean? how many times my colleague has been sick over the same period

i have nothing but bad luck.. but still havent missed a day..

In my two years so far, I think I have been ill for half a day or maybe a whole day, cant remember.

I haven't been off sick for over a year now. There's people at work though who seem to be sick all the time. Even when they do come in they moan about some problem. A cold is what normally gets me though. I feel it coming on in the evening, the next day i'm buggered, and then the day after I'm fine. Same with the flu as well. My old boss in Canada was great though. He'd say if you're sick, stay the hell away from him (ie don't come to work). My boss now though expects you to come in. Yeah doing some job out back would be ok, but I don't want to sit on the busy, boiling hot tube for an hour to get to work.

Being off work with a cold is pathetic. Sure it's unpleasant, but it's ridiculous to take the day off for it.

Not really work but, I have only had one day off of school in total...
Year 1 till Year 7, almost in year 8

Never a missed a day of school since starting year 7. Now almost year 9
Edit:
Wow... Just realised how sad that is :(
considering how many bad flues I've caught.

I do boast I haven't had a day off for 24 years but I also think I'm a massive fool.
So many workers around me knew how to play the game and have as many days as possible but to be honest I've always enjoyed going to work.
Earlier this year I had to get about 23 days holiday in within 3 months and every day I had off it felt wrong but I suppose it's the mentality I've got myself into.

I'd rather just take the day off and then be fine the next day than come in and then feel awful for the whole week. It isn't especially great when you're supposed to be speaking to customers either.

My eldest daughter never had a day off in her 10 years at school and ended up in the newspapers for it.
She also got a trophy and a £5 book token that she never spent.
When she started College I got phone calls every other week asking where she was because she hated it.
Now here's a bit of advice for you, she ended up doing the subjects her mates were doing which were psychology & sociology and knew she had made a mistake.
She took time out, went back and did what she wanted and now she's just finished her first year at Uni at the age of 25 doing exactly what she wants to.
She texted today saying she has got 5 firsts and 3 x 2.1s.
SO DON'T FOLLOW YOUR MATES.

I've had 3 days off sick in 6 years, a couple of weeks ago I had a throat infection and still came into work - I work in a call center and got put on offline duties instead, much to the sneering of other work 'colleagues'.

There's normally a pattern that develops when people phone in sick.

At our place more often than not all the people who phone in sick will either be off on a Monday or a Friday. It's not rocket science why. The young un's think we are daft , but 3 warnings and then out the door gives us the last laugh ....

I'm perhaps off work sick 3 times a year. On a few occasions over the last 8 years or so I have been off work for over a week sick too.

I warned my young colleague about this, telling her that every day she had off was a Friday so to be careful but she said they wouldn't notice :D
Of course they did.
