Anyone here got first-hand experience of working in McDonalds?
Tempted to apply part-time for my last year of college, but I'm hearing lots of horror stories, just wanting some more peoples opinions...

Thanks.

You dont need opinions.... Have you ever seen anyone smile when they serve you there? or do they look like they have had thier soul ripped out and deep fried?

To be fair, if there's a job going at the moment, take the opportunity in my opinion. Who's to say you'll get it anyway?

I have a friend who got to a manager position, he lasted that long then realised he couldn't take it any longer!

The most idiotic, rude and vile human beings in England are found in fast food restaurants.

Why the customers have to have such attitude, I will never know.

Why do you want people's opinions? What do you think 99% of them will be?

If you want to work there, apply for it by all means. Remember there is a recession on and jobs are hard to come by.

Infact, if your friends laugh at you for working there, laugh back at them for (likely) not having a job at all.

I personaly wouldn't, but I was lucky and got a job at Bristol Laser Quest, probably the single best college job possible.

Saying that however, if you want a job, you can't afford to be picky, I was lucky and only got that job after about a month of looking.

I worked there for about 5 weeks when I was 17.
It was quite a good laugh in all honesty. Money was rubbish but it was just pocket money anyway. It was hard work but that's cos I like to keep busy. I wasn't allowed on the tils because I had my eyebrow peirced so I got the better IMO back room jobs.
It made me smell though, the smell got into my skin and hair and didn't even wash out properly.

I did it as my first job, part-time during A-levels. Well, 3 months anyway! Earned enough to buy my first pair of record decks, than sacked it off the week before Xmas. They were livid, but then they were paying £2.70 an hour (1993, pre-minimum wage) so my guilt was noticably absent!

How would I describe it? Soul-destroying. If you have the intellect for college then you'll most likely be bored to tears. Then again, how desperate are you for the cash? I've done a couple of other bits of shop work and they were far more entertaining...

Oh yeah, the smell, as monkeyspank says. Nasty.

I worked there for a year when I was 17, met a lot of great friends there, everyone was my age at the time and was working there in the sumer holidays. Was a great laugh!

Haha, this thread reminds me of the greatest customer service I ever received at McDonalds, I approached the counter and the attendant said (in a terribly depressed voice) "D'ya wan owt?".

Well the things I'm hearing are things such as horrible managers, inproper training, smelling of chip fat constantly, etc etc.

Problem is all these people I've spoken to worked in the same town (different branches), and was wondering if this is a common thing or just that area.

Working at BK was awesome. Spent around 2 years there while I went to college, constantly on the lash with people all my own age, great stuff :)

Tesco general assistants get more per hour than the lowest McDonalds Managers.
When I was in 6th form (2006) I was at tesco on £6.01 an hour and someone I knew got £6.00 as the lowest manager at McDonalds. The pay is crap, single rate pay for Sats and Suns and you stink of chips after each shift and cannot do anything until go go home and shower.

Avoid.

EDIT:I also worked there during 6th form so I am talking from experience. The staff are on about the same wavelength as a trolley boy. It is the crappest of jobs, but it all depends how much you want the money. If you do apply, only work there whilst looking for other work.

I do not frequent these places, it is very very rare that I would actually eat in there, but from the few times I have, that is more or less the impression I got.
