"world class" players

I was listening to talksport and they bought up an interesting point, they said the term world class is used way too lightly these days and i must say i agree with it.

i say i gotta agree with that, im not bashing man utd and ill admit ruud and veron are world class but i do think people are branded world class to easily these days

world class is figo, raul and zidane not players like beckham :/
 
Even raul and figo arent really in the same class as zidane really, raul ur never gonna get a more one footed player ever, most of the worlds best are comfortable with both etc, but given his left is utter class i will let him off:p

Figo seems to me sometimes just ambling along, he doesnt look bothered some times, dunno he has looked ordinary a lot of the time i have seen him, zidane on the other hand is an utterly amazing footballer:eek:

Football is such a popular sport now tho, the media is too involved, they class players as they wish, one day they world beater, the next day they are doggy doo.

Beckham, imo is not world class, same as owen, both are incredibly good at what they do, but they havent got much more to thier game, ie u take away beckhams passing and owens pace, they are just run of the mill players.
 
I was speaking to a Man.Utd fan about this yesterday, he didn't like the topic. ;)

I totally agree with you, but then he's meant to be one of the best players in England today, who is better than him?

If you ever watch soccer am they are keeping a chart of Veron and the percentage of times he uses his left / right foot. He usually gets about 5% using his left and thats including all touches not just passing. Would you call Veron world class?

Zidane is another on another planet, he is world world class lol, its not fair to compare him to others coz he is something else, the man is gonna be recognized as one of the all time greats. He has had some poor games but they are usually against the weaker teams, what makes him great is when he plays against the bigger teams the man raises his games to insane levels, he was the man that was totally destroying man utd and he did the same against valencia. £47mill well spent if ya ask me, he always performs in the big games, european finals, world cup finals, big domestic games. He is amazing

Figo is world class, if u saw him before he left for real at barca he was amazing, when rivaldo was named world player of the year rivaldo said that figo would have got the award if he was brazillian, only this season he is finding that form again and against man utd he showed why he is head and shoulders above beckham

Raul is so good at disrupting defense's, ask fergie how good he is, he always messes up the shape of the defense and makes super runs, even when ronaldo game he has kinda changed his game to help ronaldo which is a class thing, usually he was a long striker now he does come a lot more deep from what i seen before, he might of done it before but back then there was no spanish footy on tv =/ 43 champions league goals is no laughing matter, that is amazing and look at the teams he has scored against the only teams not on that list are probably the teams real havent faced lol. His left foot aint that bad either heh ;)

Surprised to see RvN only 3 ahead of Henry. I thought this was one of the big arguments in the RvN vs Henry thread. I can't find out how many games they have both played in though :(.
 
For once Jazz I agree with you...

I've never thought becks anything special. He's hyped as
out of this world but is no where near it. I'd cash in on him
while we've got the chance.

United's REALLY world class players are;

Van Nistelrooy
Veron
Scholes

And thats it at the moment. Maybe Rio and O'shea in
a few years, especially O'shea.

Who do you reckon at Arsenal these days ?

I'd say Henry, Viera and Pires.

The others are good but those three are head and shoulders
above the rest.
 
Gotta say i'll admit the media have had Beckham believe he is better than he is. Thing is he is quality no doubt and he works his butt off, but world-class, no.

As a United fan i can see that we have better players than Beckham easily, Scholes, Giggs, Veron, Keane, Ruud and Ole Solksjaer too.

Anyway heres a question whos better Zidane or Cantona? I'd say Cantona.

I'd have to go with Zidane , Cantona only hit his peak in the last few years of his career , how long has Zidane been at the top ?
 
ok instead of arguing between RM and Man utd over WC players whya dont we open it up to the rest of the PL and the world ?

The top players in the PL that could be cosidered as WC are

Veron
Rio
RvN
Henry
Vieira
Pires
Barthez


Idont think any English players other than Rio are world Class. And I honestly cant think of any others within the PL that would be catergorised as such.

On his day there is no-one better than barthez IMHO

there are more consistent keepers but on his day Barthez is probably one of the top 3 in the world.
 
The massive media coverage of the premiership is probably to blame to the overhyping of our players.

Truely world class players are consistently good especially when playing at the highest level. They are players that would walk into the best teams in the land and get a place in the starting 11.

Players like:

Zidane
Raul
Henry
Nistleroy
Viera
Roberto Carlos
Ronaldo
Rivaldo
Sol Campbell

To name but a few. :)

I was just thinking that Sol Campbell is the only English player I would class as 'World Class'

he was the only other one that I would have said could be considered World Class but due to Rio's World Cup performances which were slightly better than Sols I went for Rio but both could easily be described as such I think on reflection.
 
I think both dudek and cudicini and pos given are all better than barthez.

The next few years robinson and kirkland will be world class too, in england we have always had utter class keepers, apart from schmeichel,grobelaar etc we have had shilton and seamen even.

Cantona V Zidane, no contest, both immensly talented, one has won a WC and a EC,countless titles around the world, the other? well u work it out:p

No, i dont think he has ever played world class footy since he has played for united, infact imo he has made the side worse as fergie has tried incorporate him,scholes and keane in the team, thus moving away from the 442 which has bought a hell of a lot of sucess.
