"world class" players

Anyway heres a question whos better Zidane or Cantona? I'd say Cantona

i presume you're taking the michael  zidane has played for juve and real becoming the most expensibe player in world football. doing it on a huge stage, cl finals wc, euro champ

cantona was little better than a journey man til he joined united, and while he undoubtedly was one of the bargains on the decade he never did it in europe. two years at the top dont make him fit to tie zidanes laces

there are more consistent keepers but on his day Barthez is probably one of the top 3 in the world

david james can be good on his day aswell, consistency is the hallmark of a great keeper, did u see barthez against real he was rubbish

err when exactly ?

Figo's goal couldnt have done a thing

Rauls goals same

he made at least 3 world class saves. So who would you say is better ? Dudek ? dont make me laugh he makes far more mistakes than Barthez, David James not a chance again makes far more mistakes than Barthez.

The only two that would come close in the PL are Cusicini and Friedel neither of which have proved anything as they haven't played top class European football.

actually dudek only made mistakes this season, and i think hes made about 6 maybe 7 bad ones, barthez has dropped clangers the whole time he's been at united but people pass it off as eccentricity.

For rauls first goal he was beaten at the near post positioning was bad, positioning for second wasnt great either

for figos goal he was unlucky i spose but he never had the flight of the ball

with ref to james all i was saying was that on his day hes as good as anyone, as is barhez, however given the mistakes both are prone to i wouldnt call them worldclass

Oh and what about barthezs deliberate handball  that was just stupid

I think it's a sad thing when we only have one or two English players who are truly considered World Class. Even worse, is that we only really have one (Rooney) who has the potential to go on to be world class.

If Shearer were a year or two younger he'd definitely be in the world class section though, superb striker.

Two words for you. Brad Friedel.

He is the best keeper in the prem by far at the moment, unbelievable shot stopper who beat teams like arsenal (27 shots on goal) on his own. He never makes mistakes these days either and had a decent world cup. Souness says he wouldn't swap him for anyone and for once I agree with him.

Of course to be described as "world class" you should have been doing the business over at least 3 seasons I would say. But he's definitely the best in the prem, even if you don't regard him as World Class.

Personally I wouldn't rate Pires as world class, Overmars and Giggs are both better in his position IMO. Henry, Vieira and probably Bergkamp I would rate up there though.

Beckham I would say is in with a shout.

yer Cliff i was gonna make this point aswell but i didnt know how to put it without sounding a tad sarcastic
the "both feet" business doesnt come into affect if ur "strongest foot" is world class :D :p

ie : Raul :o

Friedel without a shadow of a doubt is twice the keeper Barthez is.

i wouldnt say overmas is better than pires at all, last season pires was brilliant and in the past pires has been superb for france. Giggs on his day is good as well. But pires isnt a proper left winger he usually cuts in a lot

Bergkamp WAS world class, i like him a lot as well but he isnt the the player he was :( Not as consistant as he was but he does get a lot of injuries these days.

cudicni and friedal are better than barthez, dudek was superb last season and dodgy this season, barthez was dodgy this season and this season has been decent. If u saw David Jame's performance at highbury that is as good goalkeeping performance ive seen in a while it doesnt make him world class though. dunno if i can class cudicini or friedal world class coz they have only had 1 good season.

Out of zidane and cantonna, that has to be the easiest question ever, zidane is much better than him. And i mean much better, zidane has toyed with the best defenses in europe, cantona only did well in the english league. He didnt do much for france either but wasnt really given a proper chance. I wouldnt put him in the same league as zidane, thats how highly i rate him.

Zidane has been the No.1 player in the world since at least World cup 1998. By the end of his career we may talk of him in the same breath as the maradonas, cryuffs, peles etc. Thats how good he is IMHO. He always performs against the big teams and he always performs in the big matches, in the man utd match 90% of his passes were on target and only in the 41st min he made a bad pass. I believe man utd tackled him twice in the whole match  If u saw his performance against valencia it was even better.

I would say campbell is very very nearly world class, he can sometimes make mistakes but who cant. I'd also say he is better than rio, rio had a good world cup and sol an average one and it was made out that rio was much better, which he simply isnt. campbell for arsenal at times has been a rock. Rio was very over-rated in the world cup and in the brazil match he looked very dodgy against top class strikers. I would never say he is world class, a couple good games dont make u world class.

Scholes world class  he is a good player but no way world class. Also veron is world class but like rotty said only sometimes.

What about Rustu? I'd say he had a shout at being the best Goalkeeper.

...

Players i would consider world class

Zidane
Raul
Henry
Nistleroy
Viera
Roberto Carlos
Ronaldo
Rivaldo
Sol Campbell
Scholes
Keane was but is nop passed it, after his recent injury he isnt the same player
Veron
Pires
Barthez

I dunno about beckham i think he still would be the player he is even if he hadnt married a spice girl or been a "pretty boy", The first thing that actually got beckham really noticed was when he scored that goal from the half way line, also when he used to bang in free kicks on regular basis, put in superb crosses practically every time he had the ball. As of late he has been working hard but not producing the goods, against madrid he was, well how can i put it ****. I tihnk maybe at one point in his career he has been world class, but as of late he hasnt.

And Zidane vs Cantona? easy zidane by a mile, as a few people have said zidane only destroyed defences in the prem and not in europe, when zidane terrorises defences in his own league and on the european stage. He has also been the best player in the world for what 5-6 years? I would compare zidane and cantona like:

Zidane - Prem
Cantona - Div 2

the problem beckham has is that he is overhyped by the media which then equates to him being overrated, imo he is in the top 10 of right sided midfielders in the world

as for scholes - is he better than zidane, obviously not. but he is a great player, juve have tried to sign him a few times and they don't buy crap players

and i have a sneaky feeling someone other than me is going to name Batty in this thread;) :p

I still dont understand how u regard scholes world class, good but no way world class, juve want ljundberg so shall we call him world class as well?

As for a list of world class players:

Zidane - Do i even need to add a comment, best player in the world
Raul - Most consistant striker in europe for a while now
Figo - best right winger, has skill, strength, great dribbling, good shot, good vision, good delivery etc etc :p
Ronaldo - not the player he was but is still class and will get better
Ballack - main reason leverkusen nearly won 3 trophies and germany getting to WC final
Kahn - has a presense in goal
Recoba - not seen much of tbh but everyone seems to say he is great ;)
Nesta - great defender
Shevchenko - apart of one of the most lethal partnerships in CL history, v.good player
Del Piero - great at setting others up and has good skill, scores a lot as well
Carlos - is up and down the pitch non stop, has a good left foot
Veron - on his day his passing can be breathtaking, hasnt had many good days at utd though
RvN - dont like him but is a good player, his record speaks for itself
Henry - scores a lot and makes soo many chances, is abit slow though ;)
Vieira - has been called the most complete midfielder in the world, has a presence in midfield
Pires - great vision and has good dribbling skills
Rustu - great goalkeeper, dodgy at crosses but the best shot stopper in the world on his day
Thuram - a real powerhouse and is very strong on the ball, good defender and good at attacking which is rare in full backs these days, they usually are good at one not both
campbell - a real rock in defense, has pace and tackles hard and accurately

B]

Bayern apparantly want Hamann back at the end of the season and have offered Hargreaves in part swap  Liverpool have said Ballack or no deal , quality player

PS , I've checked the thread and cant find Gilly's Leeds world class XI , am I missing something ? ;) :p

World Class?

Zidane - Even Showed it at Marsaille
Shevchenko - Deadly anywhere within 30 yds of Goal, would like to see him pair up with Rebrov again
Rustu - THE best keeper in the world for the past 18 months
Thuram - Very consistant, not much gets by him
Roy Keane - The complete midfielder

On the Brink of Worldclass.....

Raul - Sometimes he just can't be bothered
Ronaldo - Only because of him being injury prone, otherwise....
Henry - Give him another year
Vieri - Needs to score more
Rivaldo - Too inconsistant
Del Piero - as above
Denilson - Promised so much, then went to Betis
Requelme - Barca midfielder

Ones to watch......future worldclass

Mexes - Champions league defender at 21
Boomsong - with Mexes they are gonna make a wicked defence
Pierlo - He plays for AC, i think thats how you spell it
Rooney - Have you seen his last 3 matches!
Mida - Ajax, needs to move to bigger club
Portillo - Madrid, young prodigy
Jaoquin - Watch out for him
Maradonna Jnr - On the books at Napoli, nearly went on loan to Clyde a month or so back
