Where was he meant to pass it? Our zero wingers or our tiny striker?

One point he did a great run out wide, looked up and there was only Defoe marked by a 6ft4 Mertesacker in the middle! What is he mean to do? Dribble past the entire team himself? Fact is we're playing 4 central midfielders (2 of them shoehorned as wingers) and he has zero support. He played in Gerrard, Defoe and Milner for chances so he played a ****load better than most of our team.

What does height have to do with a pass to feet?

Gerrard never stayed on the left hand side where he was supposed to so I'd say that's a big contributor to Rooney's performance over the course of the 4 games. He rarely had anyone to lay it off to, constantly having to stop and turn or run into a wall of defenders. Is the problem with Gerrard for not being more disciplined? Or with Capello for playing him out of position? For me, it's the latter. Everyone knows Gerrard plays at his best when in the centre of the park. But, overall, you still can't say Rooney was anything more than woeful all tournament and certainly didn't warrant a regular starting place. Not that anyone did really bar A.Cole and James.

Rooney did a damn-sight better than people are giving him credit for, he was out of position dealing with other players who were playing out of position.

Our defence was shockingly terrible, making schoolboy errors, not to mention treating the germans with kid gloves.

Our team setup was bad for the players we had, most players played shockingly bad and seemed to have no awareness (oh look i'll pass it to a german lol)

James saved us on several occaisions, and while we may have lost he was easily our best performer, the team needs reshuffling, the management needs changing and the whole philosophy of england football needs to be rewritten.

On another note lampards "disallowed" goal may have changed the pace of the game had it been counted it may not have, the end result we lost due to sloppy play, it's a moot point.

Whilst it was a ridiculous occurrence, this provides more ammo to implement goal line technology.

Playing Gerrard on the left just does not work, he just wanders, and fair enough he doesn't (and shouldn't) play there. Why he doesn't play behind Rooney I will never know - Defoe is a great goal poacher but brings nothing in open play.

We can't blame the manager for for everything, it is the players fault also but he made some shocking decisions and he can't even speak English. It can't exactly help.

do you understand that to be the best you have to play with/against the best, so if your only playing with/against rubbish english players and no foreign players then the quality of football is going to go down not up

I didn't say get rid of them completely. I said implement a cap. I've been calling for a cap for ages. They can play here, I just don't want to see entire teams full of foreign players.

At least The Football Forum will calm down a bit now. I don't know why so many of you are getting so worked up about this when it was inevitable.

Go outside into the sun and enjoy the weather, it's just a silly game that we were never going to succeed in :D

Disgrace. Rooney one of the best strikers in the world? If only he'd turned up to the World Cup.

Capello will be sacked by the end of next week. Harry Redknapp will be offered the job. Another 44 years of disappointment ahead.

Sorry, I find comments like that utter nonsense. Carragher's played against better and quicker players than anything Germany have. He's simply a better defender than Upson and wouldn't have been rushing out from the back leaving huge gaps for Germany to exploit.

Our problems defensively stemmed from no midfielder picking up Ozil inbetween the back 4 and defense and the positioning of the CB's, not a lack of pace.

I have to agree with Metalface.

You sound almost as deluded as Fabio :p

Well the only words to describe the england team are **** **** poor and *****, its time to play the youth team who would've perform
ed better

I feel sorry for the English supporters who paid to travel to South Africa to watch these games. England were gutless in every single game and it took a 4-1 thrashing for people to even sit up and realise that England aren't a team who can just turn up and automatically win the game. They were absolutely dire in every single match and it was funny how a 1-0 win against the smallest country in the tournament made all the English believe that this was their time and all of that nonsense.

England are serial underachievers given some of the individuals in their team, Rooney, Lampard, Gerrard, Terry, Cashley, the list goes on of players who are great at club level but just fail to hack it on the International stage. I don't think this is Cappelo's fault, I think he's made a stupid choice bringing on Heskey when England were in need of several goals though , I'd have given Crouch a go, he has to be worth a punt with his record and who gives a **** if his goals are scrappy, tap ins or otherwise, at least he scores. I'm in no way just blaming anything on Heskey but as a neutral I thought that it was a silly choice to even include him in the squad, if he was meant to unleash Rooney then he certainly failed to do that, failed catastrophically. I genuinely feel sorry for Capello who will probably end up losing his job because of this. It's either that, or he starts rebuilding again for the Euro's in 2 years or the next World Cup but frankly I don't see him wanting to stick around for another World Cup with England who have just went out without a fight at all.

As for the disallowed goal, the ref is obviously an idiot for not giving that, I bet if Stevie Wonder was in the crowd even he'd have seen it, or his guide dog would've at least barked or something, absolutely shocking decision but the game goes on and in all fairness England got from this game what they deserved, absolutely nothing. They put up a fight for all of 15 minutes before being dominated in the second half just as much as they were for large periods of the first half.

One thing I don't understand is how people are saying Germany were weaker on paper and that England were favourites, why were Germany perceived to be weaker than England? To me all that suggests is that the English players are overhyped and overrated purely because of their passports. If they were just outplayed by an average team as the pundits suggested before kick off then what does that make England? Below average using their logic, which is exactly how they have performed in all of their games. Would Brazil, Argentina, Spain, Portugal or even Germany be happy and positive about scraping a 1-0 win over a poor Slovenian team? I sincerely doubt it.

I think the English supporters would've at least been semi satisfied if England even looked like they cared, and looked like putting up a fight, but instead they've been knocked out with a whimper.

Well so much for my theory that they never lose when I don't watch the game.
Expect the tabloids to photoshop Capello's head onto a turnip tomorrow then. :p

Defence was shocking today, we were carved open again and again and again. Upson and Terry constantly out of position, needing cover and thus leaving our left and right wide open :/
