World Cup Bets

Mainly betfair isnt a bookies ie its done online but instead of changing odds with bookies you do it with other people who are also logged on...advantages to that is that you tend to get better odds with betfair than you would with a bookie. Plus you have more markets to bet on and unlike a bookie where you place your bet and thats it...with betfair you can bet whilst the game is being played so you can change your bets at any time ie if you back a team to win and they arent then you could always back the other team or back the draw if its going that way.

Ok thanks for explaining this I'll take a look at this sounds interesting also there offering new members a Free £25 bet.

I'm looking to bet on
Uruguay to Win
Spain to win

Brazil/Holland and German / Argies I'm struggling to call may put Brazil to qualify instead of winning.

I just did:

Brazil to Qualify - 1.44
Uruguay to Qualify - 1.53
Spain to win - 1.44
Over 2.5 Goals Argentina vs Germany game - 2.10

I used a £25 free bet from Stan James which will win a net figure of approx. £140 should it come in.

Can you withdraw the winnings should you win or any catches ?

Might sign up there for a free bet :)

Yep as soon as the market is closed...they settle straight away and you can withdraw the money that you have won...although it takes 3-5 days for it to show up in your bank account if your withdrawing to your bank account.

The one good thing about betfair is that whatever stake you put down, it will tell you how much you lose and how much you will win...if you win you get your stake back as well ie i backed Spain to win last night at odds of 2.1 and put down £500...i got the £500 back plus my profit which was around £1050...so in total i got back £1550.

Just be aware that laying against a team wont get you much profit back but you stand to lose a lot more....safer to back rather than lay.

Also remember that its other people giving you odds ie trading and when the market is 'in play' the odds can change super fast so it can go from 2.1 for instance to 1.01 withing a few secs if one of the teams is doing very well. There are people on there that use automated robots ie computer programs that give and snatch odds so it can move pretty fast at times.

I think £500 at odds of 2.1 would give you a £550 profit, so £1050 overall including your original stake.

LOL no i checked my betslip...finally found it...got odds of 6/1 for Brazil so if i win ie Brazil win the WC ill make an easy £600.

I told you. i never believed you for a reason, i placed the same bet before the world cup as mentioned above, you stand to win a lot more than me though since i went each way

its easier to win by laying thats why you lose a lot more when you lose and dont win as much when you do win.

when backing a team, your saying that they must win within 90 minutes or whatever bet you put on, you have 1 option out of 3 ticked.

when laying a team your saying that anything apart from them winning within 90 minutes is good, therefore a draw or loss, therefore you have 2 options out of 3 ticked.

ive never layed bets, because you need to have a lot of spare capital which you are willing to lose. whereas when backing you only need your stake.

2.1*500 = £1050 + £500(original stake i put down) = £1550

According to my calculations...and what betfair put down as my winnings. £1050 is the profit i made...its £1550 if i add my £500 stake to it.

Exactly and thats why i dont lay although its tempting at times:p...but u stand to lose more by laying.

How much do you stand to win by betting each way??...only asking because last time round i did all my betting through betfair and dont generally deal with bookies ie ladbrokes.

well each way splits the bet into 2.

£25 on Brazil to win the world cup and £25 on Brazil to come 1st or 2nd.

Odds are 6/1 on the straight bet and 3/1 on each way.

So if Brazil win the world cup, both my bets win because the came 1st. Winnings would be (£25 x 6) + (£25 x 3) = £225

If Brazil get to the final but lose, my 2nd £25 bet wins to i get £75.

Its either going to be a £175 profit or £25 profit if brazil get to the final. Im guaranteed a return though if they do get to the final. So what i could do is just stick another £25 on a brazil win, that way if brazil lose in the final i get my stake back (no loss what so ever), if they win the final i could be nearly £300 up.

Hmmm your right by the looks of it...just had a look at my betfair account and they are saying the same thing give or take a few £'s as they charge a commission on the winnings...not a big percentage though.

you only get your stake back when using fractional odds:

e.g Brazil 3/2 --------- Draw 2/1 --------- Holland 4/1

you dont get your stake back when using decimal odds:

e.g Brazil 2.5 -------- Draw 3.0 -------- Holland 5.0

Ok thanks for explaining I think I'll only stake a bet as I'm use to this using Ladbrooks. Will open an account up tomorrow when I get up. I do have 1 free £10 bet left with William hill also waiting for an accumulator to come had Spain, brazil in last 16 to win and uruguay in the quarters .

Other than Spain and uruguay I can't call the others so may opt for to qualify instead of 90 min win.

Right I've taken the plunge and signed up with betclic, 888 and betfair for their free bet offers for new cusomters. So I've got 3 bets (£20, 20 and 25), just got to work out what to bet on!

I want to bet on the quarter finals but not sure what sort of bet to go for. I've never gambled before (and technically aren't now because I can't lose any money :D), so if you were in my position what would you go for?

I want to go for something that will get a decent return (£80+ profit), so I'm not going to play it safe and go for low odds, but I don't want to do a stupid bet that will bag £1000 but will never come off.

Would you do three similar bets so you're more likely for at least one of them to come off or would you go for 3 completely seperate bets? Accumulator or just a single bet? What have you chaps bet on this weekend?

I'd not gamble and lay them off to ensure a £50ish profit. Google "matched betting" on how to do it. If you want to gamble then I'd look at either draws in world cup quarter finals or backing strong favourites on the to qualify markets.

do 3 seperate bets. if for instance you pick spain to win in all 3 bets and they end up drawing or losing then it messes up all your bets.

as a rule of thumb i try to never pick any of the same matches in accumulators, although now with the world cup down to just 8 teams (4 matches at the same time) it is impossible to do seperate accumulators.

therefore i would do doubles

spain and argentina

brazil and spain

uruguay and brazil

argentina and brazil

spain and uruguay

argentina and uruguay

thats 6 bets which you need to narrow down to 3

I'm going to go for

Spain, Uruguay to win
and Brazil to qualify.
Win @ 3.27/1

Or all 3 to qualify is at 2.35/1

Can't call the Germans match myself.
