cantr direct points directly address your individual points due to the way you quoted but

3: he was.

4: to gain match fitness / because he seemed to be the only player showing passion in the result

5: whats yer point yer talking theoretical not actual events ?

Hargreaves = you weren't watching the match. if you were then ??

no but you said he wasnt good enough to be the best england player on the pitch.

he was.

Hargreaves did play quite well today and with owen now out id rather have 5 in midfield or play walcott from the start with rooney. But neither will happen and crouch will be upfront with rooney which annoys the hell out of me cos they're not a good partnership

Pretty much it tbh.

We now know, that against reasonable opposition, that Hargreaves can do a job and potentially free up Gerrard/Lampard. Rooney up on his own. If we're gonna play 4, stick with the first choice four and at least try and get Crouch/Rooney to play a different game, stick Gerrard/Cole further up or play Walcott. Crouch/Rooney isn't happening as it stands.

What a second half, the shots were raining in, off the line, off the bar, and we aint even played any big teams yet, and now we've lost Owen, so that leaves Walcott/Crouch and an unfit Rooney, you've played a blinder Sven.

A better performance, but so much to work on. They will be glad they aren’t playing Germany. What cracked me up was when Gerrard was asked in the interview if it was the main priority to avoid Germany, and he said something in the lines of "well no we tried our utmost to finish top of the table" :o :D ;)

That looked bad for Owen, looked like his leg was trapped under him, and the only way to go down was for the knee to give way like that, looked very painful. Hope he is OK.

IMO we should try and play with a more attacking approach against Ecuador. We have a lot of posession with no real penetration and against a decent side we will not score.

Beckham should be benched in favour of Lennon.

Crouch should be benched in favour of Walcott to partner Rooney. Owen would have been ideal but I fear he's out for a while now.

We need to be more direct and need players on both sides of the field who can beat defenders and get behind them. Beckham can't do it and to be honest is becoming a liability. Sure he can cross the ball from free-kicks etc, but so can Gerrard just as well.

The reason I say this is because Ecuador will be the weakest team we are likely to play in the knock-out phase. We should experiment and try to surprise opponents and not play our same old tired game, which sadly is not cutting it, even against poor opposition.

The real sad thing is that I don't think Sven has the balls to try it. Would he rather us go out of the World Cup with a squad posessing this much talent with a whimper. He should just do what he wants and not care, he has nothing to lose as he walks away after this competition.

Obviously we need to sort out the defence on set-peices as we look solid from open play.

I see that a few people are starting to see why Hargreaves is thought of highly everywhere but here. :p

I personally thought that today, he was Englands best midfielder. He was everywhere, and battling for everything, tracking back, ect;
Just like i said, give him a full game, in his prefered position, and he'll perform more times than not.
I'm normally one of Hargreaves biggest critics but today I thought he played well he made a few mistakes but overall he was very good. Personally I've never questioned his tracking back or battling it's normally just that he ends up giving the ball away when he does :p I couldn't say he was Englands best midfielder today mind I thought Joe Cole was. Imo Rooney had to go off he was knackered but rather than risk Gerrard I would have thought bringing on Lennon would have been a better option but we got away with playing Gerrard without him been booked so it doesn't really matter. A pretty rubbish England performance but we're through but I'm feeling fairly down about our chances now Owen is looking like he's going to be out for the rest of the finals.

Think what he meant though was that regardless of where Germany finished, they wanted to win the group. You can just interpret it differently.

Not going to comment on the game because everyone has already said what i think.. We're so frustrating to watch.

Sol is rubbish atm,no argument there, but why is he getting stick for the second goal? It was JT who cocked-up for that one

Poor again, but the Owen loss was a biggy, and completely shot the game plan,i thought we did pretty well 1st half all things considered.Yes we let it 2 sloppy goals, but some credit should go to Sweden, who put some evil balls into the box all match.
I was getting really peeved that for EVERY corner Sweden placed the ball outside the triangle, only getting pulled up for it in the 89th minute -wtf was that all about  the linesmen were standing right by the ball and letting them do it.I know it makes little difference in the run of things, but if they can't sort simple things like that, how do they get the job?

Still, unbeaten, win the group, avoid Krauts and poss Argies, whats the problem.

In Stevie we trust

:D

I can't comment on the game really as I am over-ridden by fury.
Robinson gives me no confidence, he's nowhere near the crosses and looks dodgy on shots, James is the alternative, but he couldn't do any worse! Thing is, I really rate Robinson too, dunno whats up with him. Stage fright perhaps?
Carragher is abysmal, he does so many things wrong it's incredible he's being played.
Terry was dodgy from the word go, I fear for us without Ferdinand.
Ashley Cole doesn't seem to be in any rush to get anywhere, Joe cole is continually waiting for the overlap only for A. Cole to dilly dally up the pitch.
