World Cup Group E (Czech Rep, Ghana, Italy, USA) **SPOILERS**

a 3 match ban for de-rossi is not enough. should be a year or two, proper scum imo. he could have blinded mcbride...if it was accidental, fair enough, but he went in with intent. idiot.

new names from pleat:

gilardino = gilardini
ayala = ayorla

Even if he does get a 3 match ban (which he should, minimum) he would be available should Italy reach the semis. So, if there aren't any fresh inhury worries should Italy get that far, it should be a toss up between Perrotta, Gattuso & De Rossi for 2 places in the team.

Take a read of this:

De Rossi was praised by referee Mauro Bergonzi after De Rossi had scored a goal with his hand in a match against Messina. Bergonzi allowed the goal until De Rossi showed a great piece of fair play when admitting to the referee that he had pushed the ball in with his hand, the goal was disallowed and Roma went on to win 2-1.

De Rossi was named to the Italian national team in 2006. During a 2006 World Cup group play match against the United States, De Rossi was sent off in the tournament's ugliest incident after he elbowed Brian McBride in the face. McBride left the pitch bloodied, but returned later after requiring three stitches. De Rossi later apologized to McBride (who subsequently praised De Rossi as "classy" for approaching him after the match), but it is unclear what sanctions De Rossi will face as a result of the incident.

BTW, imagine the number of mispronounciations there would be if Motty and Pleat were to commentate together

ok maybe thats exaggerated but what if mcbride lost his eye sight because of that? if rio ferdinand can get a 8 month ban for missing his drugs test (no proof of him taking drugs either), i don't see how a 3 match ban can justify de rossi's actions imo. maximum they would give is 10 i think.

yeah mate i saw a clip of the hand ball thing, it was fair play. but what he did yesterday was really harsh. i don't see how mcbride could accept an apology after that. he probably just wants to be mr innocent..

I think thats a skewed perspective. You a manyoo fan?

How about Cantona when he assaulted a fan? He has a smaller ban than Rio when he cheated...

nah mate. i was just giving an example, albeit a crappy one :)

cantona, yeah apparently the fan was taking the **** out of him or something (?). the ban was about 10 or 11 months though i think..

lol.
The reactions to De Rossi are funny. Part justified, but funny in a way.
Like you've never seen a player do something like that before. :o

And how many times do you see/hear of players going to someone they've injured and apologising? Almost never.
I dont recall some of the larger incidents between the big teams over here being apologised for.
So wether you 'liked' what he did or not, you have to give him credit for swallowing his pride and apologising.
But i doubt that many will see it like that.

Regardless of wether he gets banned for longer than 3 games or not, he's not one of our key players. So we'll manage.

Just because it's been seen before doesn't make it any less of a vile attack.
What he did was disgusting & he deserves all the abuse, fine & ban he gets.
Lippi seems to think the lad has some kind of problem

That was the least he could do

Hopefully not, there's always a big casualty in the group stages:)

I personaly think that having a player sent off for such a horrible challenge like that elbow, the whole team should be punished. This elbowing has to stop. It wont be long now until a player will be seriously injured or even killed during a game.
lol!! - yeah good one. The whole team should be punished? Punishment is usually served to an offender. The Italian team as a whole did not commit the offence.

All this over reacting and what ifs - geez give it a rest already.

I havnt said that it makes it less though have i?

Yes it was the least he could do. But that wasnt my point.
My point was that you very rarely see other players apologising do you.
I dont recalled Essian for example apologising to Hamann (i think it was Hamann). Or DelHorno apologising to Messi. Or Bergkamp apologising to his many victems. Or, or, or...

Of course it's been seen before, that doesn't make it any more acceptable though so if anyone wants to fume about, that's fair enough.

Essien did apologise to Hamann (the challenge deserved it) & there was no need for del Horno to apologise:)

I've only just arrived here so........

As an Italy fan (there goes my credibility on these forums....), De Rossi should be sent home, Toni has done nothing wrong except a poor strike of the ball against the US, David Pleat not only can't say Gilardino but he seems to think Milan (my club side...and all my remaining credibility has gone) have signed Perrotta - even though Berlusconi and Galliani know nothing about it - and we (Italy) are going to end up going home this week :(.

At last, some final round games where everyone has something to play for.Should get a bit of excitement and hopefully an upset or two along the way :)

Yup I agree. I can see the Czech's going out today unless they find a striker.
