World first QD-OLED monitor from Dell and Samsung (34 inch Ultrawide 175hz)

Is that sarcasm? That looks good to me but I'm viewing this thread on an LG oled lol.

Is it the cotaing that causes washed out blacks in light?

I prefer dim lit rooms but appreciate it's not for everyone.

Lack of relfection appeals to me, I'm not a fan of how relective the oled tvs are.

It is indeed  :D :p

The only time blacks will look ever so slightly grey (wouldn't even use the word grey either tbh) is if you have light directly shining on the screen or/and light bouncing of a white/bright wall which hits the screen. If I had an LG OLED in the same spot as my AW, you would be seeing a lot more reflections making the screen much more unusable imo.

Essentially, much like with lgs oleds, you'll still need to either place the display somewhere lighting or/and reflections won't be a problem or at least control the lighting and angles/positioning somehow.

I'd love to have this monitor.

I'm using an E9 oled which while a few years old is still very good. But I'm not a fan of using a pc on a tv and the reflections kill the image quality at times.

My issue is I just don't have the space for a desk set up. :(

We'll I actually have has mine running for a few hours it's a really nice screen and I do enjoy ultrawide however mines to the point now it won't stay on at all no matter of I wiggle so I think it's back in the box.

I hope the replacement comes soon I've had an email of a manager stating that he's on the case now and will be in contact Monday again.
He did offer me a substitute monitor till one arrives but I don't fancy any more hassle so will probably pull out the sale of my g7 for the time being.

I'm abit ****** off that people have had there's exchanged for minor things whilst half me screens off and the connects dodgy lol which I have expressed at length to them.

Manage to get a few games on tarkov and warzone this morning and it is a nice picture clearer/ sharper than g7. Definitely not as bright and some indoors scenes in tarkov are a lot darker than I have ever seen.

I've noticed that if I have games running the screen will stay on but of u open notepad or websites (white pages ) it flickers then goes off pressumable as this needs more power ?

Yeh definitely ****** I think it's had aprang in transit as the box looks like a spades gone through it and surely they wouldn't send out like this or it was a return (the box was retaped ).

Part of me think sod it now and get money back but at 800 quid I'd be hard pressed get anything as good anytime soon and the way the **** show operate one could randomly turn up on my door anytime lol

Might be a test other people should see how there's fair as gaming is fine. The website right move has killed mine twice now lol stops us moving house tho

Playing some games locked at 171 fps, the extra hz/fps combined with oleds instant pixel response does make a nice difference over 144 fps/hz, just so incredibly smooth looking and the response is fantastic. Hopefully the 4080 doesn't cost an arm and a leg.....

The electric bill might still got two kidneys ay

Did you guys install the ICC profile from Dell’s website? I am not sure if I recall reading it is better without it for some reason?

Sounds like someone is becoming a 21.9 believer at long last ;) :p :D
Wouldn’t go that far..

… yet! ;)

Just look at how trash this monitor is in a bright room, blacks and contrast is useless!

God of War must be incredibly fun with OLED at 175Hz against the Valkyries. Those perfect timing button presses, right to the millisecond. Imagine OLED Ultrawide 240Hz or even 360Hz at those locked framerates in years to come.

Lovely. At this rate this monitor will be free to me as when the next one I have on order comes in June (maybe earlier) I will sell it on for a juicy profit thanks to Dell :D

Looks like Dell have been playing ping pong with the website pricing going by other replies etc!

Not sure if you did post this. Basically was asking if you used any specific software. More of a ultrawide and Windows 11 question I suppose as I will be moving to that soon.

Also did you or anyone install the dell icc profile or anything like that?

Indeed :D

Apologies I got distracted and forgot!

Regarding the icc profile from Dell, I only installed the driver so it's seen as the correct monitor etc in Device Manager, then uninstalled from Apps/Software any Dell/Alienware installs as the driver itself remains on the system. I then manually disabled/removed the Dell icc profile in Windows because it makes the colours look wrong/washed out in certain things like Windows Photo Viewer, Lightroom etc.
By removing the icc profile and leaving colour management in Windows blank (tick the box to "use my settings for this device", you then get a direct sRGB output between OS and GFX card and display so everything looks as it should in every app.

(I am assuming you don't work in DCI P3 for any work btw so everything is sRGB which for 99% of us is the case I would bet)

No other specific software though but if you browse a lot of streaming sites, then Ultrawideo is a really good browser extension you can install that makes viewing mixed aspect ratio stuff a breeze on a 21:9 monitor. I did a video about it to highlight key points after Vincent's video said this monitor was bad for movies :p

BTW seen @mrk post on reddit. The amount of 'knows-it-all' in every thread there continues to amaze me.
Im glad I found this forum, it's suprisingly healthy and respectful place to share opinions.

Yeah, I hardly ever use reddit and that is one of a few reasons why.

Yep it seems reddit is more and more filled with this sort of thing which is a shame as normally in the past, smaller subs were kinda close nit but with a larger audience for everything these days, those sorts of people seem more in your face now :/

Maybe my eyesight's just getting bad, but I can't see the fringing at all on a white background, and barely on a black one if I look for it.

If anyone is annoyed at having to manually shift to HDR mode for all those programs that don't do it automatically, I was introduced to a tool called AutoActions. There are more lightweight alternatives, but I found this one to be the most convenient and unobtrusive.

I have to say I have noticed that on this replacement, that text fringe is less obvious up close. There's obviously some panel variances at play here but from a normal distance both monitors were fine, but up close it's hard to spot any red fringing any more, something that I could spot when pixel peeping just with my eyes up close previously. I have not re-done cleartype though so maybe the previous screen's cleartype adjustments are more in favour on this one.

Will check out those tools, looks interesting!

On a side note, I just checked the Dell returns status out of curiosity and noticed this statement:

Remember: If you did not purchase the option to keep parts, you will need to return them by following the instructions included with the box or via email

Wonder how much I would have to pay to keep the /faulty/ (marks on screen) part, if it's a low figure then might actually work out quite lucrative in a resale after I give it some elbow grease and clean it off? :p

I've been playing God of War with HDR, 144Hz refresh but the game nominally runs at 120fps ish or more on my 3080 Ti. This feels utterly smooth and the response feels like I am on a wired gaming mouse (used to have Logitech G series and also have had Zowie/Endgame mice)..

Can't even imagine 240Hz because QD-OLED just feels much faster than the number suggests, as someone said earlier, Cyberpunk 60fps feels like 100fps on this monitor, assuming your system can maintain 60fps of course :p

Nope 4080 will be an arm or a leg, not both though :D

Don't forget guys the 40xx series will require a new PSU, have you seen the supposed power requirements of them?! Unless you have a 1000watt PSU then factor that in as well :D

Got around to trying DLDSR at 5120x2160 and that certainly really helps with jaggies quite a bit. It enables me to get away from needing any aa in some games like my 4K monitor did, so that is awesome.

Also I run cleartype wizard again and took my time this time and I am happy with the results :)

Cheers.

Monitor continues to impress....caught up with some Dying Light 2 I'd been putting off.

But.....Halo Infinite is a real puzzler. Played through it on the Series X, so not really checked out the PC version too much, but a smooth experience it is not. Don't care what the monitor says on the OSD or Afterburner etc, whether it's down to frame pacing issues or whatever, it's a real stuttering mess.

I actually had no problems with Halo Infinite, game runs at 90fps+ typically with max settings. It seems it is very lottery though as others with similar specs to me complained of stutter!

Game is pants though so I have it uninstalled :p
